View Full Version : Trump Threatens Pennsylvanians With Retribution

Apparently at a rally today, Trump was not happy that Governor Wolf was not accommodating Trump's super spreader rally planning. He told the crowd that the next time Pennsylvania needs federal aid, he'll remember that.

Of course the crowd, which was fully infected with TDS, cheered at the President's threats.

Don't forget how tired he was to having to debate President Trump for a full 90 minutes... and at the end let slip his plan to get rid of the oil industry.

Well that largely depends on how much Russian-fed misinformation you've exposed yourself to and how much time you've actually spent getting information from nonpartisan sources.

The whole Biden is about to die and is mentally unfit thing- that's literally Russian propaganda that's been picked up by conservative media outlets.

So ultimately your views on it are more a reflection of you than of, say, Biden and Harris.

They're paid for by taxes from everyone, and for everyone to use. I think that easily falls under the banner of the 'socialism' that is used as a boogeyman for other services that function in the same way.

Regardless, "not socialism" is not an answer to the question that I asked.

Socialism as a political concept is sort of a massive range, but generally it means that the government owns the means of production (i.e. the government owns all of the steel mills, the government owns all of factories, etc), and typically the private companies that do exist are collectively owned by the employees.

So public ownership is a component of some forms of socialism, but it's not really socialism itself. The socialist version of public roads would be that all road building companies are either owned by the government or owned collectively by the workers. What you're describing, though, is social democracy. That's actually the thing people advocate for in this country and around Europe, in particular.

Getting to your boogeyman point though- virtually nothing people are actually advocating for in the US (on either side) qualifies as socialism. Supporting Universal health care isn't socialism. Supporting Single payer universal systems aren't actually socialism (Don't get me wrong- it can exist in a socialist government. But it's not inherently socialist). Supporting Free college tuition isn't socialism. It's just called not being an asshole.

Socialism is the most abused term in politics in the US. The only people talking about socialism are Republicans and Bernie Sanders- neither of whom actually know what it means.

"You don't think" is correct. Roads, bridges and other services that generate no revenue and manufacture nothing are not Socialist in nature because of that very fact and the definition of Socialism. All clearly explained in the article I linked written by a Liberal author.

Controlling the means of production of the product, medical care including goods and services in this case, and it's distribution to the people is in fact Socialist in nature. Since there is no generated profit from sale, that isn't a consideration in this case. Not to mention totalitarian and bordering on, depending on implementation, a violation of the First and Thirteenth amendments of the Constitution among others.

When the government decides where a road will be built, gets the tax dollars, buys the land, hires a contractor, and is responsible for maintaining said road... is that not controlling the means of production of the product? Damn, I think it is. Can I just go build a road anywhere I want? Can I declare imminent domain to build a road? Nope, sure can't. Seems like the government controls the shit out of the means of production and distribution of the product. Oh, and don't they also make people get licenses to use said roads, further controlling said distribution of the product? Hmmmmmm.....

This doesn't differ from universal health at a principle level. The only difference is in your mind's eye, which is only capable of looking out for one thing.... you. You have health care. You can afford it. Giving it to everyone would mean you might have to pay a little more, so fuck that shit, you've got no time for anyone else.

Next ignorant argument please.

No controlling the means of production in terms of medical care would mean that either the state owns all of the medical centers, or the ones not owned by the state are collectively owned by the employees.

Distribution of goods to the larger population isn't socialism. It's provisioning, and we do it with a lot of things in a lot of ways. There's absolutely nothing about the pure act of *distribution* that qualifies as socialist anything- socialism is only concerned with production as far as government ownership goes. And yes, that's true even when it's the government doing the distribution. Which, by the way, is NOT at all even remotely close to ANYTHING anyone has argued for in this country as far as health care goes.

And you're equally wrong as far as education goes. It only counts as socialism if the government owns all of the colleges and universities in the country, OR the ones they don't own are owned collectively by the employees there. That's not at all the system we have. Disbursing government funds to private entities owned by a board of directors in order to perform services the government wants to ensure isn't socialism. At all. It's actually the opposite of socialism.

So congratulations Rockstar: once again, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
