I believe they realize that Sanders winning would cause people to head more towards Trump. Elections are about swaying the center, and the center probably doesn't want the far left shit Bernie is pushing. I think after Obama's Presidency Bernie had the best chance to win if he had won the nom, but after 4 years of Trump maintaining and expanding the economy, I don't think people are looking to kindly at his policies.
