NYC To Ban Hot Dogs and Processed Meats To Improve Climate (https://wrno.iheart.com/content/2019-04-23-nyc-to-ban-hot-dogs-and-processed-meats-to-improve-climate/)
New York City is the first city in the United States to eliminate processed meats.
Mayor Bill de Blasio approved an ambitious $14 billion Green New Deal (https://onenyc.cityofnewyork.us/) on Monday, April 22, to combat climate change. The plan will cut purchases of red meat by 50 percent in its city-controlled facilities such as hospitals, schools, and correctional facilities. The new commitment builds off of the Meatless Mondays campaign that was adopted by all NYC schools in 2017.
“It is a difficult plan. It is a necessary plan.... Estimates that tell us that we have only 12 years to get it right. Let’s be clear, we have until 2030 to change things fundamentally, or our lives won’t be the same,” de Blasio said (http://www.weatherboy.com/hot-dogs-banned-nyc-improve-weather-climate/?fbclid=IwAR2KdcesLkFH2f7CufETB9myh-boby2gj00AP-tC2YcSkcWfInEQ14vNhXg) at an Earth Day event yesterday.
By 2030, New York City's Green New Deal will reduce greenhouse emissions by 30% while also creating new jobs. Additionally, all buildings that are 25,000 square feet or more, of which there are 50,000 citywide, will be required to make efficiency upgrades that lower their energy usage and emissions or they will face steep penalties.
More details on the Green New Deal can be found here (https://onenyc.cityofnewyork.us/).

There are like 473298407230324 hot dog vendors in NYC. I'm assuming he just put them all out of business?

A lot of this stuff likely refers to programs that have been in place in New York for a long time already, before AOC was even in office. It just sounds like they're mandating it now. I can't speak to the meats thing because I haven't done anything in regards to that, but the building efficiency upgrades, huge swaths of the city have already taken advantage of. New York has had some crazy incentives going tax-wise for about a decade now. For example, if you change out fluorescent lighting with LED in a building in New York, even after paying the contractors to do it and buying the new lights, the tax breaks have you turning a profit off of the whole thing. Then your electricity bill is lower forever, as is your bill to replace lights and fixtures and ballasts. Then you can sell your old ballasts on ebay and make even more money. One of my old clients sold hundreds of thousands of those T8 LED tubes over the past decade specifically to New York because it was a no brainer.
I don't think the mandating efficiency standards will have too far to go in most of the city.

Democrats used to be the party of "legalize it!" They are quickly becoming the party of "criminalize it!"
Abortions? Legalize it!
Illegal immigration? Legalize it!
Drugs? Legalize it!
Shitting on the sidewalk? Legalize it!
But when it comes to law abiding citizens minding their own business and enjoying some perks of living in a modern society they want to criminalize everything.
Guns? Criminalize it!
Owning nice buildings? Criminalize it!
Enjoying hamburgers? Criminalize it!
Having "too much" money? Criminalize it!
Practicing speech they don't like? Criminalize it!

Depends on how efficient they want buildings to get. Lighting typically accounts for less than 10% of a buildings total electrical cost. Even assuming they could cut that in half by going to more energy efficient standards, that's only 5% off their electricity. If NYC is going to mandate a 30% reduction then these buildings have a long way to go and it won't be as simple or cheap as just replacing a bunch of bulbs.
Don't get me wrong, I think everyone should switch to LED when their old bulbs burn out, possibly even sooner. But it's not the energy savings bonanza people make it out to be, especially if they are already using fluorescent.

Yeah. They have a bunch of those incentives going I know and have for a while. I just only have direct experience with the lighting one. I think the only parts of the city that have big buildings that won't have already taken advantage of most of them are the sketchier parts anyway. It costs too much to do anything in NYC for most of the big rich ones to not already be running super efficiently. The giant LCDs in Times Square are probably run on a thimble full of corn oil that wouldn't power the Wright Flyer at this point.

Headline is false. There is no ban on hotdogs or processed meats in NYC. The plan will cut purchases of red meat by 50 percent in its city-controlled facilities such as hospitals, schools, and correctional facilities. Everyone in NY, city or state, can still buy as much red meat as they want whether its steak, burgers, Grey's Papya, or the corner cart.

After climbing for decades, electricity use by American households has declined over the past eight years.
“That’s a staggering change,” said Lucas Davis, an energy economist at the Haas School of Business, part of the University of California, Berkeley.
The economic recession in the late 2000s contributed to an initial dip in electricity demand, but as the economy improved, lighting and other energy-efficiency improvements continued to drive down household electricity use.
Check out the whole article. Its pretty amazing we have made this kind of change just by switching light bulbs.

Again lighting accounts for a small portion of a building's energy usage. Let's say your electric bill is 100 dollars a month and for a whole month you didn't turn on a single light bulb, your next bill will be around 90 bucks a month. That's with a 100% reduction in electricity usage from lighting. Sure it's nice, every penny counts, but to suggest it is making a noticeable difference on our energy demands is absurd. Everything is getting more energy efficient; computers, TVs, phone chargers, etc. Shit remember when plasma TVs were all the rage and everyone was upgrading from a 40 inch CRT to an energy hogging 65 inch plasma? Plasma TVs are no longer really sold and instead everyone is now buying much more energy efficient LCD and LED TVs.
Same goes for monitors; people moved away from CRT monitors to LCD and LED monitors, even though they are typically bigger now they still use less electricity than older CRT monitors. Even computer parts are getting more energy efficient. I was looking at processors the other day and a more modern and more powerful processor today uses less electricity than the processor I currently have in my computer.
Everything is getting more energy efficient, and that's great. But as things get more energy efficient people buy more and more things that consume electricity. 40 years ago people didn't have a TV in every bedroom so 4 different people can watch 4 different TVs, they didn't have a game system and a computer running constantly.
In short: Yes energy efficient light bulbs are a good thing, but people really need to stop acting like they are making a dent in the amount of electricity we use. Think about everything that uses electricity in your home: AC, refrigerators, computers, TVs, lights. You really think replacing that one 60 watt bulb in your living room with an LED bulb that uses 20 watts is making a huge difference? Do you? Well? DO YA?!

LEDs use 85% less energy than incadecent. The average home has 45 light bulbs. There are 127.59 million homes in the US. Thats not so insignificant.
I'd say that changing light bulbs has had a huge impact along with other energy saving measures.

And how often do you use those lights? If it's a room with a window probably near 0% during the day. I'm also going to assume 0% while you're sleeping, at work, not home, and not using that room.
In general a light bulb is used for 4 hours during a day for rooms that are used a lot, e.g. a living room or bedroom. Just because I have a light bulb in my laundry room doesn't mean it's on for anywhere near 4 hours a day. I would be surprised if it's on for an average of 3 minutes a day.
Let's say a typical family of 4 uses 4 60 watt light bulbs for 4 hours a day, just because I like the number 4. Let's use your suggestion that LEDs use 85% less energy.
That's 960 watts a day for the old bulb compared to 144 watts for the LED bulbs. Or about 3.75 dollars compared to 57 cents assuming 13 cents per KwH.
For comparison's sake a typical clothes dryer uses about 3500 watts of electricity. Using that dryer for just 2 hours a week uses more electricity than those old incandescent bulbs. Ovens and AC units use similar amounts of electricity and the AC unit is probably running a lot more than 2 hours a day.

The ones I don't use a lot are, because they haven't burned out yet.

So your example family with incandescents would pay $1368.75 a year where the family with LEDs would pay $208.05 a year. Not only that but the LED family would draw that much less KwHs. Multiply that by the number of homes in the US, 127.59 million and it adds up to a fuckton.

NYC and Quebec will be in discussions for our electricity
From the information we have, a 10 billion contract would be discussed and in our end, that would mean building more wind centrals and more dams.
details:
Hydro-Québec said it would be “happy to engage in discussions with New York City” to firm up the Champlain Hudson Power Express transmission line project, which would have a capacity of eight terawatt-hours of electricity. Cables would be buried under ground and under water for more than 530 kilometres. The project has been on the table for at least 10 years. The original plan was to start construction in 2018 and have the network live in 2021.
If it's happening, 15% of NYC's power needs would be fulfilled by Quebec.
We already have deals with (in french but easy to understand)

Explain?
Without delving too deeply. New technology will replace current technology when the consumer/developer deems it a better value. A socialist would argue that those technologies would still be developed through government spending, which is true to a certain degree. The downfall to the socialists theory is that government is far less efficient with money than the consumer is at the individual level and will more times than not demand a less efficient technology than a private consumer.

it's like the paradox that the more industrial a country is, the more it pollutes but since the said country get richer, the less pollution will be produced since they got the money to updates their industries
In CAnada, our way to force that changes is by taxing the hell out of everything polluting. That way, the "individual" (either consummers or company) will changes, huh?

A "woman" calling me a racist, sexist, white supremacist is okay, me calling "her" dumb is "violent" towards her?
At this point I hope you're Macguyver because I don't want to believe someone is this dense in real life.
Since I'm getting the last word let me close with a few things:
sellstuff1 is not a woman. You've fallen hard for the mangina, man.
A real strong, independent woman does not need you to defend her by saying her precious sensibilities can't handle it. In fact she would probably be pissed with you for thinking she needs a man to protect her.
Would I ever talk to my mother that way? Of course not. But my mother isn't a raging, psychotic lunatic so she has that going for her.
Would I ever speak to my dad the way I am speaking to you? No, for much the same reasons I described above.
