View Full Version : Trump Should Reject the Border Deal

ClydeR

Trump should refuse to sign the congressional compromise. It is a joke and an insult!

In February of last year, Trump rejected a bipartisan proposal that would have given him $2.5 billion specifically for a wall in 2018 plus another $22.5 billion over the next nine years, also specifically for a wall. Then in December he rejected the bill unanimously passed by the Senate that would give him $1.5 billion for border security, not a wall, leading to a prolonged shutdown. The new compromise is $1.375 billion solely for "bollard" fencing. He keeps getting worse offers. That's not the art of the deal!

What is bollard fencing anyway? I think it's the short metal and concrete polls spaced close enough together to keep cars from driving through. You see them on sidewalks outside the entrances to buildings.

If he signs this, then he deserves to be a laughingstock.

McConnell says he hopes to vote on this new bipartisan bill ASAP. Not a good sign for Trump. Seems like not even McConnell is willing to stick his turtle neck out for Trump this time.

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump intends to sign the border security deal to avoid another partial government shutdown, according to two sources who have spoken directly with the President.

Trump said Tuesday that he was "not happy" with the tentative deal reached by congressional negotiators late Monday night that falls far short of his original demands.

On Wednesday, he told reporters he would "take a very serious look" at the legislation, adding that he does not want the government to shut down again.

Congress’s power to control spending is enshrined in the Constitution. There are a few legal precedents for the president to issue spending orders during a national emergency, but they’re for national defense and essential military activities. That’s what Trump will try to use. However, it’s unlikely that the conservative Supreme Court he helped ensure will buy that this wall is either one of those and allow that sort of run-around. So, basically Trump is screwed. Not only is he going to sign a bill that doesn’t give him the wall he said he’d never compromise on, but he’s going to lose a Supreme Court battle about a fake national emergency.

All that said, I’m glad he finally compromised and I think this bill is reasonable. He’s just not going to be happy about that and it’ll fuck him.

1. You're literally one of the stupid Trump supporters Ann Coulter is talking about.
2. There is no national emergency. Trump even said during the presser that he didn't need to sign the national emergency declaration, he just wanted to wall done faster.
3. The Democrats did play ball, they gave Trump $1.375 billion for the wall.
4. They're not going to take this to court because they're against securing the border, they're against the POTUS abusing his power to circumvent the Constitution.
5. Enjoy yourself as Trump's presidency collapses because he's cornered himself and has zero political capital.

Like I give a shit what Ann Coulter thinks. It's funny how all you do is claim Republicans just hang on to every word of certain people like Ann Coulter, Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson, etc, yet as soon as one of them says something you like you can't help but hump their leg until they get a restraining order against you.

Immigrants often fill the jobs Americans don’t want

However, some argue that the work of these agents to protect against “job-stealing” immigrants may be in vain. As Brookings Senior Fellow Vanda Felbab-Brown explains in her new Brookings Essay, “The Wall,” immigrants may not actually be “stealing” as many U.S. jobs as Trump thinks. As she put it, “the impact of immigrant labor on the wages of native-born workers is low… However, undocumented workers often work the unpleasant, back-breaking jobs that native-born workers are not willing to do.”

Felbab-Brown explains that many of the jobs occupied by undocumented workers in the United States are physically demanding jobs that Americans do not want, such as gutting fish or work on farm fields. She argues, “fixing immigration is not about mass deportations of people but about creating a legal visa system for jobs Americans do not want. And it is about providing better education opportunities, skills-development and retooling, and safety nets for American workers. And to date, Trump hasn’t offered serious policy proposals on many—if any—of these areas.”

I'm not disputing your point at all, I completely agree with it. Yes people will work, but business and people also want money, that's why we ship jobs to China, India, Vietnam etc for cheaper labor cost to make more money, and in turn give cheaper products to consumers. it's a vicious never ending cycle.

I remember reading an article about these jobs... 12 hours a day in the blistering sun. would you do it? For $10, $15, $20 an hour? How much would they need to pay you, to do this work? Or is this work to low for you?

What you fail to also see is money isn't the only factor, there are many many other factors on why "Americans" won't work these jobs, if you want I can list them out for you, or you can just read up on some of Peter Druckers work. he lays it out quite well on why most people won't work these jobs.

The fact is people will do anything if the price is right. This is how wages increase not by minimum wage laws. But it's entertaining to hear the same arguments made by the south being made today.

I'm talking about anyone who would pay any person pennies on the dollar because the person is here illegally.

Unless you are using E-Verify, it's next to impossible to tell who is here legally and who is here illegally. When I was in the hotel industry and E-Verify first came out, we realized that half our housekeeping and maintenance staff was here illegally. The difference is: We didn't pay them pennies on the dollar.. we paid them like we would anyone in that specific position.

PS:I know you are still suffering from TDS.. but it's going to be ok.

No. Obama could have done the exact same thing if he was as smart as Trump.

Remember Hurricane Sandy and Obama's bromance with Chris Christie? Obama requested $60 billion of relief funds for that hurricane, but Congress only appropriated $50 billion, saying the rest was requested for wasteful purposes. Obama could have just taken the extra $10 billion and declared a national emergency. Surely a hurricane qualifies as a national emergency.

And what about the 2013 floods in Colorado? That was in the news recently when a usually subdued Senator from Colorado had a viral moment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLNd2KbPXHk). As you will recall, Ted Cruz singlehandedly shut down the government following those floods by reading Green Eggs and Ham on the Senate floor, preventing the federal government from providing relief to Colorado. Obama should have declared a disaster and just taken the money.

Strong leaders take the money. Weak leaders wait for someone to give it to them.

Technically, true, but only after lying to everyone about WMDs.

Wars have a long and storied history of being started by lies. The truth is, we were looking for a fight after 9/11 and the political establishment capitalized on the bloodlust we all felt. We would've gone to war with anyone who gave us an inkling of a reason. Make no mistake: cassus belli has always been a joke. Alexander the Great blamed Persia for assassinating Phillip of Macedon, which probably happened by his or his mother's own orders. Polk wanted the good parts of Mexico and so escalated a minor border dispute into full scale gimme gimme gimme. There are a couple thousands of years bookends for you. If you'd like, I can fill in the blanks with hundreds of other examples.

Even in fiction wars are started for no reason. The Trojan war was ostensibly started over Helen, but realistically started because Menalaus wanted some of that sweet sweet aegean unobtainium. Who knows why the real Trojan war was started, but the fictional one was based on a lie. The real one probably was too.

this is all irrelevant as Bush didn't lie so...retarded post.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction

In the early 2000s, the administrations of George W. Bush and Tony Blair asserted that Saddam Hussein's weapons programs were still actively building weapons, and that large stockpiles of WMDs were hidden in Iraq. Inspections by the UN to resolve the status of unresolved disarmament questions restarted between November 2002 and March 2003,[3] under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441, which demanded Saddam give "immediate, unconditional and active cooperation" with UN and IAEA inspections, shortly before his country was attacked.[4] The United States asserted that Saddam's frequent lack of cooperation was a breach of Resolution 1441, but failed to convince the UN Security Council to pass a new resolution authorizing the use of force due to lack of evidence.[5][6][7] Despite this, Bush asserted peaceful measures could not disarm Iraq of the weapons he alleged it to have and launched a second Gulf War instead. Later U.S.-led inspections found that Iraq had earlier ceased active WMD production and stockpiling.[1]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction

You actually can't just take facts, ignore them, and substitute your own fucking reality you goddamn simpleton.

Haven't had to bust out the Wall of Text in quite a few years... but it shows that the willfully ignorant want to remain willfully ignorant to help their cause out.

Sorry, this disagrees:

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." -- From a letter signed by Joe Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara A. Milulski, Tom Daschle, & John Kerry among others on October 9, 1998

"This December will mark three years since United Nations inspectors last visited Iraq. There is no doubt that since that time, Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to refine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer- range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." -- From a December 6, 2001 letter signed by Bob Graham, Joe Lieberman, Harold Ford, & Tom Lantos among others

"Whereas Iraq has consistently breached its cease-fire agreement between Iraq and the United States, entered into on March 3, 1991, by failing to dismantle its weapons of mass destruction program, and refusing to permit monitoring and verification by United Nations inspections; Whereas Iraq has developed weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological capabilities, and has made positive progress toward developing nuclear weapons capabilities" -- From a joint resolution submitted by Tom Harkin and Arlen Specter on July 18, 2002

"Saddam's goal ... is to achieve the lifting of U.N. sanctions while retaining and enhancing Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed." -- Madeline Albright, 1998

"(Saddam) will rebuild his arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and some day, some way, I am certain he will use that arsenal again, as he has 10 times since 1983" -- National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, Feb 18, 1998

"Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction, and unfortunately, Iraq has not lived up to its agreement." -- Barbara Boxer, November 8, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retained some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capability. Intelligence reports also indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons, but has not yet achieved nuclear capability." -- Robert Byrd, October 2002

"There's no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat... Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He's had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001... He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn't have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we." -- Wesley Clark on September 26, 2002

"What is at stake is how to answer the potential threat Iraq represents with the risk of proliferation of WMD. Baghdad's regime did use such weapons in the past. Today, a number of evidences may lead to think that, over the past four years, in the absence of international inspectors, this country has continued armament programs." -- Jacques Chirac, October 16, 2002

"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." -- Bill Clinton in 1998

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security." -- Hillary Clinton, October 10, 2002

"I am absolutely convinced that there are weapons...I saw evidence back in 1998 when we would see the inspectors being barred from gaining entry into a warehouse for three hours with trucks rolling up and then moving those trucks out." -- Clinton's Secretary of Defense William Cohen in April of 2003

"Iraq is not the only nation in the world to possess weapons of mass destruction, but it is the only nation with a leader who has used them against his own people." -- Tom Daschle in 1998

"Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal." -- John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

"The debate over Iraq is not about politics. It is about national security. It should be clear that our national security requires Congress to send a clear message to Iraq and the world: America is united in its determination to eliminate forever the threat of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction." -- John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

"I share the administration's goals in dealing with Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction." -- Dick Gephardt in September of 2002

"Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." -- Bob Graham, December 2002

"Saddam Hussein is not the only deranged dictator who is willing to deprive his people in order to acquire weapons of mass destruction." -- Jim Jeffords, October 8, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Ted Kennedy, September 27, 2002

"There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein's regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed." -- Ted Kennedy, Sept 27, 2002

"I will be voting to give the president of the United States the authority to use force - if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- John F. Kerry, Oct 2002

"The threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but as I said, it is not new. It has been with us since the end of that war, and particularly in the last 4 years we know after Operation Desert Fox failed to force him to reaccept them, that he has continued to build those weapons. He has had a free hand for 4 years to reconstitute these weapons, allowing the world, during the interval, to lose the focus we had on weapons of mass destruction and the issue of proliferation." -- John Kerry, October 9, 2002

"(W)e need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. We all know the litany of his offenses. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. ...And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. That is why the world, through the United Nations Security Council, has spoken with one voice, demanding that Iraq disclose its weapons programs and disarm. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but it is not new. It has been with us since the end of the Persian Gulf War." -- John Kerry, Jan 23, 2003

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandates of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." -- Carl Levin, Sept 19, 2002

"Every day Saddam remains in power with chemical weapons, biological weapons, and the development of nuclear weapons is a day of danger for the United States." -- Joe Lieberman, August, 2002

"Over the years, Iraq has worked to develop nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. During 1991 - 1994, despite Iraq's denials, U.N. inspectors discovered and dismantled a large network of nuclear facilities that Iraq was using to develop nuclear weapons. Various reports indicate that Iraq is still actively pursuing nuclear weapons capability. There is no reason to think otherwise. Beyond nuclear weapons, Iraq has actively pursued biological and chemical weapons.U.N. inspectors have said that Iraq's claims about biological weapons is neither credible nor verifiable. In 1986, Iraq used chemical weapons against Iran, and later, against its own Kurdish population. While weapons inspections have been successful in the past, there have been no inspections since the end of 1998. There can be no doubt that Iraq has continued to pursue its goal of obtaining weapons of mass destruction." -- Patty Murray, October 9, 2002

"As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am keenly aware that the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons is an issue of grave importance to all nations. Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -- Nancy Pelosi, December 16, 1998

"Even today, Iraq is not nearly disarmed. Based on highly credible intelligence, UNSCOM [the U.N. weapons inspectors] suspects that Iraq still has biological agents like anthrax, botulinum toxin, and clostridium perfringens in sufficient quantity to fill several dozen bombs and ballistic missile warheads, as well as the means to continue manufacturing these deadly agents. Iraq probably retains several tons of the highly toxic VX substance, as well as sarin nerve gas and mustard gas. This agent is stored in artillery shells, bombs, and ballistic missile warheads. And Iraq retains significant dual-use industrial infrastructure that can be used to rapidly reconstitute large-scale chemical weapons production." -- Ex-Un Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter in 1998

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years. And that may happen sooner if he can obtain access to enriched uranium from foreign sources -- something that is not that difficult in the current world. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- John Rockefeller, Oct 10, 2002

"Saddam’s existing biological and chemical weapons capabilities pose a very real threat to America, now. Saddam has used chemical weapons before, both against Iraq’s enemies and against his own people. He is working to develop delivery systems like missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles that could bring these deadly weapons against U.S. forces and U.S. facilities in the Middle East." -- John Rockefeller, Oct 10, 2002

"Whether one agrees or disagrees with the Administration’s policy towards Iraq, I don’t think there can be any question about Saddam’s conduct. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do. He lies and cheats; he snubs the mandate and authority of international weapons inspectors; and he games the system to keep buying time against enforcement of the just and legitimate demands of the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States and our allies. Those are simply the facts." -- Henry Waxman, Oct 10, 2002

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama declared more national emergencies than any other President, combined.

Yeah that worked out fantastically.

Now throw up a graph of oil producing countries, same time frames. Spoiler alert, the US now produces more oil than anyone. You know what that does to middle east oil dependency and cost per barrel?

This is literally a conservative talking point for justifications for conflict in the Middle East. Just saying.

Wars being fought over resources?

That's a new concept.

Wraithbringer... he's the rep tough guy! Can't even sign his own rep.

In response to your idiotic rep, Trump has yet to decide where exactly he is getting his border funding from, Like Gelston said, DoD, but he also said he's exploring other options as well. such Puerto disaster fund and California disaster fund (although I'm not sure if the DoD is in charge of the funding for these programs specifically)

So, all in all, you are actually the fucking retard. Go play in traffic.

and if you bothered to actually read what people have written instead of just talking out of your retarded ass and leaving unsigned rep. You'd know like others who actually take the time to read threads, that i've been out of the loop for quite some time, and I'm simply getting get caught up here, and with other sources.

And before you even try, I'm not liberal, I'm not a conservative, I'm not democratic or republican... I'm a fucking Russian spy. So why don't you actually do something useful before you comment here, and actually take the time to improve that reading comprehension of yours, and add value to these topics for ONCE.

I think this is the thread where Dipshitpk compared Trump's proposed border wall to the Berlin Wall.

Venezuela has now actually stationed troops along their border to prevent their own people from traveling into neighboring countries. Again; this isn't the neighboring countries preventing Venezuelans from entering their country, it is the military of Venezuela firing upon and killing their own citizens looking to leave the country.

But you're so wrapped up in your anti-Trump nonsense that you think Trump's proposed border wall is akin to this. And where is your outrage here, Androidpk? Oh, that's right, I keep forgetting. You are a subhuman piece of garbage so of course you don't care that the people of Venezuela are being starved to death by their own government and when they want to go to another country to work and earn a living the government then murders them. Because all you care about is NY charging Manafort with crimes he's already been convicted of in federal court because the BAD ORANGE MAN might pardon him.

A top U.S. military general told lawmakers Tuesday that there is no specific force coming from the south toward the U.S. border that poses a significant threat to the homeland or to troops stationed there.

Air Force Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy, head of U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee that the "threats" coming from the southern border "are not military in nature."

AKA Trump isn't getting that money, his national emergency order is going to get overturned, and he's officially bankrupt on political capital.

Honestly, I hope the Senate doesn’t give him his emergency proclamation... I don’t see the upside at all, and it opens the door for future Presidents to use it for bullshit.
