Nah. Looking back on that thread I must have been doing something and posting thoughts down really quickly around whatever else it was that I was doing. I followed up with some videos on gerrymandering but then never fully explained it so got me there.
But gerrymandering is very real and everyone should hate it because not just republicans do it.
Let me help you out. It was a buzzword shat out by the mainstream media you hold so dear and you latched onto it then regurgitated it here.

Anyone who has every looked at county maps anywhere knows gerrymandering is potentially an issue for everyone. It'd be good to address it such that it was apolitical, but we all know that will never happen.

They should just take every state, put evenly space vertical and horizontal lines across it, and call it a day. Some districts will be tiny because the the weird shapes of states, but oh well.
Can't blame anything on gerrymandering anymore.
OH NOEZ! ALL THE REPUBLICANS MOVED INTO THESE SQUARES TO FLIP THE SEATS!

Or just make it by county. Ok, this county has x population, you get x number of House seats.

Rocktar is gonna walk into his workplace one day and start shooting people. Hope the FBI are watching you closely.
I'd say you were projecting, but you'd have to have a job first in order to have a workplace to shoot up, so at least we can rule that out in your case.
Unless you're planning on shooting time4fun's dildo collection of course.

SCOTUS is looking at a couple of cases right now. One republican, one democrat. Hopefully they rule it unconstitutional. People should pick politicians, not politicians picking voters.

The supreme court isn't about to tell states how they can and cannot choose their own representatives. Unless of course a Democrat gets in office and packs the supreme court like they want to.
People make too big of a deal about gerrymandering and the current process. What is the solution? Have a committee draw up districts like some states have? Because surely a committee that isn't elected can't possibly be more corrupt than elected officials.
Have a system similar to other countries where each party gets proportional seats depending on what percent of the vote they get? I don't like that system because you're voting on parties rather than individuals. Right now someone can get elected as a Democrat but still have some conservative ideas, because they understand the district they are coming from and what the people want. The other system would just have another "yes man" in office that toes the party line.

So, if it is ok for one party to draw lines to their benefit, is it ok for both parties? And if so, which party?
It is physically impossible to draw lines that favor both parties at the same time. You'll end up with all districts being equal.

What? The state legislature draws up the districts so the state legislature decides.

Sure. Great. Who is going to draw up the lines "equally"? A non-elected committee of "concerned citizens"?
Screaming gerrymandering is just another way Democrats cope with losing elections. Both sides gerrymander and in most cases it's not nearly as big of a deal as Democrats make it out to be.
Did you know sometimes even Democrats in a state where they are the minority actually want the districts to be gerrymandered to ensure they keep their job and they actually work with Republicans to make that happen? But Democrats don't gerrymander!!!

So Cory "Sparticus" Booker is proposing legislation to study reparations. More Democraps seeking to buy votes and keep the black people dependent on the government plantation. I would almost go with it if, once and for all, I could hear the absolute forever end of any claims of racism ever. Won't happen but would be a nice dream.

Yeah, a lot of people either don't realize or just want to ignore that black people owned slaves. There were black people that fought for the Confederacy.
I never thought that any reparations would come from individual families though. I'm pretty sure that any plan would have to make it come from tax dollars, mostly because the Federal Government allowed it. Still trying to research who is the descendant of a slave would be pretty difficult. Birth records for African Americans (and many people, tbh) can be very hit or miss from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

We can't label everyone who is disturbed by migration as racist. If you're going to have a coherent, cohesive society, then everybody has to have some agreed-upon rules. And there are going to have to be some accommodations that everybody makes. And that includes the people who are newcomers. The question is, are those fair?
Should we want to encourage newcomers to learn the language of the country that they're moving to? Of course. Does that mean that they can never use their own language? No, of course it doesn't mean that, but it's not racist to say, 'Ah, if you're going to be here then you should learn the language of the country that you just arrived at because we need to have some sort of common language in which all of us can work, and learn and understand each other.
We can't label everyone who is disturbed by immigration as a racist.
Who said this? Richard Spencer? Donald Trump? Gavin McInnes? Joseph Goebbels?
Close. Barack Obama just a couple of days ago.
This is how radicalized the left has become in just 2 short years. 2 years ago we had a Democrat president who believes this. Now we have Democrat presidential candidates talking about doing away with ICE, allowing more illegal immigration, and even tearing down the current border walls we already have. Not to mention an endless supply of people on the left who will call you a racist for even suggesting any of the things Obama stated here.
And these are just Obama's views on LEGAL immigration! I can't possibly imagine he's a huge fan of open borders or illegal immigrants.

I agree and disagree, and I know how much you hate when I type more than a sentence or two so I'll try to be succinct. The prison system is in desperate need of an overhaul to make the rehabilitation it's supposed to be actually rehabilitating. If that happens, and the justice system determines that your time is served and you are rehabilitated, you should receive you rights back regardless of the crime. If the crime is bad enough to remove your rights, it's a life (or death) sentence anyway. That's how I think that should work.
Fewer hurdles to re-integrating rehabilitated prisoners into society is a good thing and helps prevent recidivism. They just have to be rehabilitated better before that's ever possible in reality.

I could the way Florida has it setup, once you have finished serving your sentence (this includes fines, fees, and parole) then your voting rights are restored.
But WHILE you're in prison? That's absolutely insane.
The argument is usually "They have paid their debt to society, let's restore their rights", Sanders actually said "They are paying their debt to society", present tense. So because they are currently incarcerated everything is good? Shit, let's just let them go home on weekends too while we're at it, since they "are paying their debt to society."
Also one of his concerns was too few people are participating in elections. So that means rapists, murderers, and gang members currently in prison should have a say in who gets elected so the politician can appeal to the criminal vote and promise them all sorts of goodies? That makes sense.

Not really. A felony crime can be theft of $501. Ohio has lower limits. That isn't a life sentence.

Personally I'd be fine with that. Don't commit crimes if you don't want your rights stripped away.
I think "Well he served his time..." his a dumb argument anyways. Just because you were forced to serve time in prison doesn't necessarily mean you've changed or "paid your debt to society." The felon should have to earn his rights back, not just have them automatically restored upon leaving prison. Keep a job, stop committing crimes, become an actual useful member of society, do this for 3+ years depending on crime then we can talk about getting your rights back.

You're describing the parole system. That already exists. It's not terribly successful, but that's why it exists.
And that's also why I qualified what I was saying with the prison system dramatically needing an overhaul in order to rehabilitate people to make it really work. The simple fact of the matter is that people do commit crimes. Always have and probably always will. They should be punished, yes. They should serve their time, yes. But they should also be rehabilitated, which, no, not really happening. If anything, prison currently makes a person MORE likely to re-offend once released. Releasing someone with a felony on their record already precludes them from being eligible for most jobs. Actively doing things to further isolate and ostracize former prisoners only increases the chance of them re-offending. Rehabilitation and reintegration to society are the two most important things we could do in regards to prisoners. The latter can't happen effectively without the former happening first though.

A) Not everyone receives parole.
B) Parole does not demand someone gets a job and becomes a useful member of society.
C) No.
Parole is basically just “we are letting you serve part (or all) of your sentence outside of prison. Don’t fuck up too much or you’ll go to prison.”

There's a stigma against hiring ex convicts, and honestly, with the recidivism rate/lack of real rehabilitation, it's somewhat warranted. We employ a work release program at my business, and it's great for the most part. We just had our first hire after release of an ex con who turned out to be a spectacular machinist by virtue of the fact that he's been making tractor pull engines his entire life. Day he was released from prison he was making *~40k a year. On the flipside of that though, we've had a large number of work release prisoners screw up their chances at both their job here inside and once they're outside by doing typical BS prison stuff, like stealing 50 cents of merchandise from the thrift shop, or in the more severe cases, doing drugs in the bathroom. For every one we hire when they're released, probably 3 get kicked out of the program because they just can't function in normal society quite right. And I should mention that these are all men hand picked for the program because they're within 2 years of release and the correctional facility feels they'll be able to do well.

The economy is so good that even felons are finding it easy to get a job. Although generally it is true that felons have a hard time finding a job. It's probably a requirement that they at least look for a job, similar to unemployment benefits.

Biden is firing up his base so he can secure the Democrat nomination then he will scale back a bit for the general election to appeal to more moderate voters. It's always a balancing act where a candidate has to play to his base to win his party's nomination but not go too far away from the center so their opponent can't use their words against them in the general election when they want to appear mode moderate. Biden is starting off so far left it's hard to believe he stands even a snowball's chance in hell of winning in a general election now.
Honestly I don't think an old white man as the Democrat candidate is going to get minorities to show up on election day for them, and none of the minority candidates have even a sliver of the charm Barack Obama did so I don't think they are going to excite their base much either.
The election is still a long way's off and a lot can change, but it's already looking like an uphill battle for the eventual Democrat candidate.

This is what I'm saying. Honestly if the 2016 election were between Biden and Trump I might have even supported Biden.
But after 2 years of seeing Trump do a bunch of shit I agree with, and now with Biden's announcement being filled with outright lies and pandering to far left terrorist groups, I'm going to vote for Trump twice this time around. But in all seriousness 2020 will be the first presidential election I have voted in since 2000.
I have a feeling a lot of people are in a similar boat as me; they weren't too thrilled with Trump being president so either stayed home election night, voted third party, or pulled the lever for Trump because it was better than Hillary. I don't think Republicans were concerned about an old, rich, white guy being the nominee. Maybe the Democrats and the media were saying we don't need another rich white guy.
Even Cortez has stated she's not thrilled that Biden entered the race because he represents the "past" of the Democrat party (because he's old and white) and she would rather move forward.
I just don't think Biden or Sanders can fire up the Democrat base to get them to show up on election day like Obama could do. Maybe someone like Harris could but I don't think she will be popular enough with the moderates to pull in many votes.
Buttigieg probably has the best chance at beating Trump, sure he's white but he's not old and he's gay. Problem is Sanders is leading the pack at the moment so the Democrats have to at least match his craziness, if not surpass it, if they want to get ahead of him in the polls. And right now Sanders is talking about reparations, Medicare for all, free college, and allowing terrorists, rapists, and murderers to vote from prison. That's going to be a tough sell in the general election to the moderates the nominee is going to need to win. Someone who doesn't buy into the media mass hysteria of Trump being a racist, sexist, homophobe is going to look at Trump and say "Secure borders, amazing economy, no plans to destroy the economy...or open borders, more crime, plans to completely destroy the economy AND allowing rapists to vote from inside of prison?"
I think Democrats are putting too much faith in their "I'm not Trump!" strategy of winning the election. It could be argued that part of why Trump won was because he wasn't Hillary, but that only works when an incumbent isn't running. Now Trump has a record to tout, and that record has been pretty amazing. Even Democrats are admitting it by not having anything to attack him with. The most they have to say is "RESIST!" That means literally nothing.

The giveaways continue with Biden's latest proposal, and this giveaway isn't even for American citizens!
Biden has said everyone in the US, illegal alien or otherwise, should be given healthcare in the US.
Yes, so now we're telling the world if you just make it over that border that Democrats don't want to protect we are now going to take care of all of your health needs.

He wants to tax rich people. Since the only money you make is what you can beg other people into giving you, you won't be taxed 90%.
But trying to explain a progressive tax system to a conservative is about as effective as trying to explain that the KKK isn't made up of liberal democrats.

If you define "rich" as anyone that makes more than $10 annually then maybe this is true. You do know that we currently have more unfunded mandates on the books than all the money in the world can pay for right? I would go on but explaining that "Free" from the government isn't really free to a flaming Socialist retard is not my idea of a fun Thursday night.

Taxing the rich never works. They don't just sit there and pay more taxes. The rich have resources, lobbyists, attorneys, accountants and financial advisers to effect change via legislation and loopholes. They work around and avoid said taxes in the meantime. Since the rich use corporations which are taxed at a much lesser amount than personal income, raising income taxes hurts no one but the middle class. This is how trump and people like him pay so little in taxes. What's interesting is that during the 1910's our income tax was sold to the voters as punishing the rich, then when taxing the rich didn't work out because of what I mentioned before, the taxes were expanded to include the very people who voted for them: the middle and lower classes. Only ignorant libtards think raising income taxes on the rich accomplishes anything.

Slave reparations isn't enough! In a bid to outleft the far left Beto is now suggesting increasing tax rates on white people and giving that money directly to blacks. Not just decedents of slaves, but all blacks.
How is the left going to pander to the black vote even further than that? Sending federal agents to the homes of whites, kicking them out, and escorting in a black family to live in there while the white people continue to pay the mortgage and upkeep? Or did I beat Elizabeth Warren to her next campaign promise?

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/beto-orourke-suggests-using-tax-system-to-transfer-wealth-from-wealthy-whites-to-blacks
“One very obvious opportunity — but it will be insufficient. When we look at the fact that there’s 10 times the wealth today in white America than there is in black America, and that families have been able to successfully pass on that wealth over time," O'Rourke responded.
We know from our history of redlining and excluding African Americans from the ability to build wealth through home purchases, that opportunity does not exist for much of the country," O'Rourke said. "What if in the tax code we did a better job of breaking down that accumulated wealth, of taxing it so it is not producing the greatest income and wealth inequality that we’ve seen in our lifetimes, unseen since the Gilded Age of the 19th century? What if we decided that we would use the proceeds to invest in people, in education?”

Hell, Mike Huckabee never really had a shot, but he ran his campaign out and parlayed his failure into a talk show.
Same deal as those who know they're out of the race but still have money left in the campaign fund. In a game of one upmanship to see which Democrat candidate can hand out the most money and buy votes, Cory "Spartacus" Booker has taken the lead with his "Baby Bonds" pledge. $1000.00 to each baby born in the US and then additional money added to each account on a sliding scale depending on their parent's income.

Discretionary spending just means congress has to approve of the funding every year whereas mandatory spending is legislated by law. Going by how much of a percentage of discretionary spending defense takes up doesn't really mean much, congress could pass laws putting every other item in the discretionary spending into the mandatory spending and then defense would take up 100% of the discretionary spending. Totally meaningless in this context except to try and showcase that our defense budget is too bloated.
We also don't really spend that much as a percent of our GDP, it's just that our GDP is so much larger than other countries, and many of those countries (like our allies who aren't spending enough) don't spend much on their defense.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. I believe reallocating spending to take care of veterans when they come home is not only the least we can do but it will go a long way to attracting a better caliber of recruits overall.

Where would you take it from?
It would appear that in 2018 the spend was ~220 billion (I can't tell if this is planned or actual... if it's planned, actual spending was higher), serving about 9M veterans, but lets bump that up to the total number of veterans of 18 million. So for an annual cost per veteran at 12K and change, we cover things like healthcare, funerals, education assistance, insurance, etc.
How much more should we spend per veteran? Keep in mind that the estimated total future pay of the above veterans is currently running at 2.5 trillion,
I don't disagree we can do better for our veterans, and I'm oversimplifying the problem by just using pure math as a cost per veteran. My point is the government could pour mountains of money at it, and still be crappy. Address the issues at the existing VA. We can't print money forever.

First off Trump didn't say anything remotely close to that. Stop being such a Democrat pretending to be a conservative.
Second promising he will cure cancer (read not WANT to cure cancer, but WILL cure cancer) if elected president is about the most dishonest, piece of shit move someone can make. At least Trump's promise to secure the border was a realistic promise. Promising to cure cancer by being elected president is so wrong I can't even wrap my head around how anyone can defend such a careless promise. There is no media spin in a direct quote. It's full sentences. Several quotes actually, from different dates. No one, in the history of the world, has considered Donald Trump a good human being. What he actually has done as President has been far different than the rhetoric he used to get there, but he said those things, and much more. That is the platform he ran on. "I'mma cure cancer" is a step up, regardless of who said it or whether or not they can deliver.
You go on accusing me of being too much of a "Democrat" for taking the "outlandish" position that Trump is a pretty shitty human being though. That seems to be working out for you. I can see myself getting all triggered soon!

Nice title "Trump calls Mexican's Rapists"
If Trump is saying Mexicans are rapists, why would he take the time to differentiate that they're "not sending their best"? Do you think he means they're not sending their best rapists?
I still don't get how anyone overlooked they're vs. their too. When I first heard this speech I interpreted it as "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, their rapists, and some, I assume are good people."
But again, even if it was "they're" and not "their," if Trump feels that way about all Mexicans and not just a high percentage of illegal immigrants who come in through the Mexican border, why would he say anything that implies that most of the "good" immigrants come here legally and most of the "bad" ones come here illegally?

"We will come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases - including cancer and others - and we're getting closer all the time."
Now you care because Trump said something similar?
Also this sounds like more of Trump's meandering from one point to the next.
We will push onward with new medical frontiers, we will come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases, including cancer and others and we’re getting closer all the time.
It sounds like he had two disjointed thoughts going on here, pushing onward with new medical frontiers, including cancer, but also we will come up with the cures to many diseases and we're getting closer all of the time. He also didn't give a time frame, again with his meandering he could just be saying the US is getting closer to curing cancer all the time and that eventually we will find a cure. He also talked about landing on Mars, I highly doubt he meant within the next 4 years.
Not quite as on point as "I promise you if elected we will cure cancer."
Either way if Trump is promising to cure cancer if reelected then he's a dumbass too for promising that.

Nah. I don't believe either of their promises and find them both stupid. Hoping I don't have to choose between these two. Bidens a terrible choice.
Trump did one up the cancer piece to say this.
“We will eradicate AIDS in America once and for all and we’re very close. We will lay the foundation for landing American astronauts on the surface of Mars.”

I'm sure we will. Eventually. Did Trump say he was going to cure cancer though like Biden did?
They both said the same thing.
Biden - we're gonna cure cancer
Trump - We will come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases - including cancer

I like Tulsi Gabbard for a nom, but don't think she'll ever get it.
