I wholeheartedly disagree with shrinking any national monument. (https://www.rei.com/blog/news/bears-ears-grand-staircase-escalante-the-ins-and-outs-of-a-national-monument)
Seriously, don't fucking do it.

I have a problem with the US Government owning 1/4 of all land in the United States. They put the name of "National Monument" to make it sound like it's some special land or holds some special meaning.. but it's always been about resources and land grabbing.

Love our national monuments and national parks. But I don't see the need to lock away 2.2 billion acres of land.
Just one example of what can be resourced from 5 square miles of land (3200 acres):
By 1896 a five square mile section of the earth was producing 210,000,000 pounds of copper a year, over 26% of the world supply.

This is correct.

Most of the owned land is uninhabitable desert that was conquered from Mexico.

You forgot Alaska, where the vast majority of Federal land is. You also seem to forget that a lot of the area is the Rocky Mountains, which aren't really habitable.

You made the claim that most of the government held land is uninhabited desert.
That is not true. The map I linked showed the desert area in the US. Alaska wasn't on it because: There are no deserts in Alaska.

Actually there are deserts in Alaska, not to mention lots of other essentially uninhabitable wastelands.
The two largest deserts on Earth are in the polar areas. The Antarctic Polar Desert covers the continent of Antarctica and has a size of about 5.5 million square miles. The second-largest desert is the Arctic Polar Desert. It extends over parts of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

Desert doesn't mean only sandy areas. Antarctica is the worlds largest desert, for instance.
