Everybody is saying that Trump is more concerned about media reports of the quality of his hurricane response than he is about the actual quality of the hurricane response. I say they are the same thing.

It's a big one. I'm no scientist but I hear it will be tremendously wet!

“They haven't seen anything like what's coming at us in 25, 30 years, maybe ever. It's tremendously big and tremendously wet, tremendous amounts of water,” Trump said

Thank god trumps in office though. He did excellent in responding to Puerto Rico. He even got an A+. It's that dastardly San Juan mayor who killed all those people and it's even Puerto Rico's fault for being an island and according to Rick Santorum (while defending trumps response) it's own country. Hey, I think we can all agree that if we start to view PR as a separate country then our obligations are much lessened.

It's reminiscent of Ray Nagin after Katrina.

P.S. Trump is soooo... evil That he donated 1 million of his own money.

Yeah, it couldn't be the years of neglect/corruption that led to PR's poor infrastructure (mostly through left-leaning policies). But I'm sure that's Trump's fault too.

He's pretty harmless. He's just spewing whatever he can for attention. God help the person that takes him seriously.

That's literally not how this works. That's not ever how this works.

3000 people died and he threw paper towels all the while they dropped a silly amount of water bottles that went undelivered. Puerto Ricans died because they couldn't get aid AFTER the hurricane, but we had plenty of supplies and near endless manpower.

So, in your head, you believe all we did was to deliver paper towels and water bottles?

Where exactly do you get your news from... Comedy Central?

This thread is titled Hurricane Florence. North and South Carolina have record rain fall and flooding. 14 people are reported dead as of 2 hours ago.

Aren't you a fucking patriot with your trolling. Claim that moral high ground bro.

Bot troll is done getting fed. Normal humans dont act like this when people die.

Clearly you have never been involved in triage of any sort of mass casualty. You decide in a lot of cases who gets to live and who gets to die. They become numbers, they have to because if you stop to think about the fact that you could not send a helicopter to rescue the two elderly people because you chose to send to a rooftop with 12 people on it; well I watched a good guy fall apart last year for Hurricane Harvey because he started thinking to much. You do your job, you save as many as you can, but ultimately you will not save everyone. Darwin is an asshole, but that is the way it is. People that do not choose to evacuate when a known natural disaster is headed towards them are in no small part responsible for what happens to themselves.

This is true, but efficiency seems to indicate we could have done better. You make any decision with the best available information and live with it, but from a macro level we had food, water and aid available we didn't get to the right places. That isn't at the individual, captain/supervisor or manager level, but it certainly impacts if the director, VP or President got it right.

He and they didn't. I'm sure the individual did with the resources at hand.

its clear you have no idea of the magnitude of a natural disaster like Florence or Harvey, and logistically those are the easy ones, we have roads to drive material into. Anyone can stage supplies, getting them out is a different story, You have a finite amount of resources to expend, the crews flying those aircraft and manning those boats, all have to get down time as well otherwise they start making mistakes and that has a cascade effect. It is a numbers game, it is that simple. Do you strip people away from other places to augment, yes, but then you are impacting their ability to continue the other missions. The response to Florence so far has been pretty damn good from what I have seen and the people that I have spoken to at the Command Center that is coordinating response, but again, you will not save everyone. People need to be more responsible about their own choices. If you chose to stay, do not expect a rescue response during the storm, the days of 'You have to go out, you do not have to come back' are long gone.

As for Hurricane Maria, that was a nightmare logistically, its an island, take every challenge you have and multiply it by 10, the ports had to be cleared and made safe, then you have to load things on ships to get them down, which takes time, loading and transit. Its not as if you can stage them somewhere, its a hurricane, they are big and you can not say with certainty where it is going. I have a little more empathy for the people there since they really did not have anywhere to go. But I also think that the media coverage was absurd because I never heard anyone talk about the challenges of dealing with the fact that it is thousands of miles away from the 48 and an island.

Not Florence but video from the typhoon as it passed it over HK and on to China. It's a tweet with a collection of video people uploaded. Worth a watch. This typhoon looks devastating.

WASHINGTON—An investigation targeting President Trump’s top emergency-management official has been referred to federal prosecutors to determine whether criminal charges should be pursued, according to people familiar with the probe.
Brock Long, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and two other federal employees may have broken multiple laws while they commuted frequently between Washington and Mr. Long’s home in Hickory, N.C., at taxpayers’ expense said one of the people briefed on the investigation.
