View Full Version : Fear: Trump in the White House

Woodward's 448-page book, "Fear: Trump in the White House," provides an unprecedented inside-the-room look through the eyes of the President's inner circle. From the Oval Office to the Situation Room to the White House residence, Woodward uses confidential background interviews to illustrate how some of the President's top advisers view him as a danger to national security and have sought to circumvent the commander in chief.

Many of the feuds and daily clashes have been well documented, but the picture painted by Trump's confidants, senior staff and Cabinet officials reveal that many of them see an even more alarming situation — worse than previously known or understood. Woodward offers a devastating portrait of a dysfunctional Trump White House, detailing how senior aides — both current and former Trump administration officials — grew exasperated with the President and increasingly worried about his erratic behavior, ignorance and penchant for lying.

Chief of staff John Kelly describes Trump as an "idiot" and "unhinged," Woodward reports. Defense Secretary James Mattis describes Trump as having the understanding of "a fifth or sixth grader." And Trump's former personal lawyer John Dowd describes the President as "a fucking liar," telling Trump he would end up in an "orange jump suit" if he testified to special counsel Robert Mueller.

Another Trump lawyer, Jay Sekulow, tried to argue to Robert Mueller that Trump could not be asked to give an interview because he is a compulsive liar. They literally explained to Mueller how they conducted a mock interview with Trump, and he was so unable to tell the truth that they considered him mentally disqualified from testifying:

Jay Sekulow went to Mueller’s office and re-enacted the mock interview. Their goal: to argue that Trump couldn’t possibly testify because he was incapable of telling the truth.

“He just made something up. That’s his nature,” Dowd said to Mueller (http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/09/woodward-book-fear-trump-staff-idiot-moron-liar.html).

Well we knew this already didn't we?

Dowd then explained to Mueller and Quarles why he was trying to keep the president from testifying: "I'm not going to sit there and let him look like an idiot. And you publish that transcript, because everything leaks in Washington, and the guys overseas are going to say, 'I told you he was an idiot. I told you he was a goddamn dumbbell. What are we dealing with this idiot for?' " "
"John, I understand," Mueller replied, according to Woodward.
Later that month, Dowd told Trump: "Don't testify. It's either that or an orange jumpsuit."
But Trump, concerned about the optics of a president refusing to testify and convinced that he could handle Mueller's questions, had by then decided otherwise.
"I'll be a real good witness," Trump told Dowd, according to Woodward.
"You are not a good witness," Dowd replied. "Mr. President, I'm afraid I just can't help you."
The next morning, Dowd resigned.

So now we know why Dowd quit. He also thinks trumps a dipshit.

People look at this behavior and it totally and completely turns them off. This is why I say keep at it.

Trump faced widespread criticism after he initially said that “both sides” were to blame for the violence that broke out at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., last August.
He later condemned white supremacists and neo-Nazis at the urging of his advisers, according to Woodward.

“That was the biggest f---ing mistake I’ve made,” Trump reportedly told aides almost immediately after the condemnation.
Trump also called it the “worst speech I’ve ever given,” according to Woodward's account.

I wonder why he thinks it was a big mistake? Loss of votes? Looking weak? Giving in to Cohn who threatened to quit?

So I had the longest day at work ever, and I'm just starting to rejoin the world. And I look at my little news aggregation tool, and I MISSED SO MUCH. And that basically sums up 2018.

I think one of the most telling things about Trump is that the people who are closest to him are the ones who have the worst things to say about him. At some point- this all begs the question: why do these people keep going to these authors and telling them everything that's going on?

It seems incredibly risky. And none of them are trying to make Trump look good.

The only logical answer at this point is that the people who are closest to Trump are trying desperately to warn everyone of just how dangerous he is. They're waving red flags frantically to get people to pay attention.

So pay attention.

Or the author could be making shit up off of he said she said whispers from 3rd or 4th party accounts. I am much more concerned with policies and actions out of the Executive Branch than I am with a President that says mean things and has a Twitter control problem.

Super low unemployment, lowest African American unemployment since it has been measured, super low Hispanic American unemployment, blue collar jobs returning, less oppressive and pointless government regulations, no pay increase for entitled Federal employees, better trade deals, no new wars, no one has been nuked despite the media's best efforts and people are finally beginning to really question the media when they spew bullshit. All in all, I am getting what I voted for.

Best of all, all you crybully politically correct little emotional children have your feelers all in an uproar over mean words.

Keep up the performances in the confirmation hearings along with continuing down the Socialist rabbit hole with that fruit loop Cortez and you can nearly guarantee a red House and Senate for Trumps second term.

Cry on.

Yes, the author who has won just about every journalist award under the sun, who has written a dozen #1 best-selling biographies with a stellar record decided to throw his entire career away just to make Trump look bad.

And the fact that all of the tell-all books about Trump have been remarkably consistent in how they describe his character (and which are remarkably consistent with previous biographies written about Trump) isn't a sign that they're accurately reflecting Trump as a person...it means there's yet another giant conspiracy out there with a whole lot of people throwing away their careers just to "get Trump"!

A journalist that got awards from other journalists in the past and who has ridden an early career hit on name recognition. Popular doesn't equal good or accurate. The National Enquirer is not good, it is very popular. These are not arguments and without sources that corroborate the commentary publicly, of which there are few, most of the major players have already publicly denied the attributed comments, you can't take the opinion of an author seriously. Arguing to the popular is not an argument.

Viewing a bunch of books written by people with a substantial political bias and who all run in the same circles with a financial interest in supporting and protecting each other does not mean they are accurate or credible. Again, arguing to the majority is not an argument.

Things have gone to shit fast since the Democrats lost in 2016. I used to think everyone would just go to work the next day and carry on as usual, I thought the same when Obama won in 2008, when Obamacare was passed, and when Obama won in 2012, and everyone did just go to work the next day and carry on as usual. I thought everything would be fine after Trump won in 2016 and for the most part it is, but these lunatics only feel more emboldened because Democrat leaders themselves are either too afraid to stand up to them or they in fact agree with their shit.

I still don't think an actual civil war is in the near future, in the sense that states will start to secede from the union, but I can't totally rule out the possibility of armed civilians starting shit.

Yeah I prefer those professional excellence awards that are given out by people who aren't in the profession. I mean, when the Fire Department gives you that "Most innovative nuclear physicist ever!" award- you know that means something. What a genuinely ridiculous argument.

You ability to imagine "substantial political bias" is hilarious. If there's something that Woodward has *never* been accused of- it's this. Contrary to your perverted beliefs- criticizing Trump doesn't make you politically biased. But deciding that anyone who DOES criticize him is biased IS an example of political bias.

And no one's taking any form of sanity advice from someone who routinely goes off on the attack of Marxists and the rapists, slavers, and murderers of the left!

I hate to break it to you, but the reason why these books resonate is that they're actually remarkably consistent with what we've seen from Trump ourselves. And though you love to talk about "fake news" (while quoting articles from actual fake news sites, no less) and these horrible journalists who just make things up...they've actually been right about Trump. It's Trump who objectively has a record of making things up.

The journalists from NYT, WaPo, CNN, Bloomberg, Reuters, etc. have been right this whole time. The vast majority of the major stories that broke about Trump have ended up being confirmed. (ESPECIALLY in cases where Trump has come out claiming they were fake news stories, if you haven't noticed).

Your inability to deal with reality may bring you comfort when it allows you to believe you're making successful rhetorical points, but it doesn't change the fact that all of those horrible "biased" journalists have been relaying accurate information to you about your government. You can resent them all you want, but that just makes you a fool who has fallen in love with an authoritarian and corrupt Executive.

In this age of "fake news", "exaggerated hyperbole", "alternative facts" and "the truth isn't truth" one idea holds firm as a bulwark against increasingly fluid standards of reality. That one idea is the law that says for every trump tweet there is an equal and opposite trump counter tweet.

Veteran journalist Bob Woodward said Sunday morning that people needed to "wake up" to what's going on in the White House.
"People better wake up to what's going on," Woodward, whose new book describes a White House in turmoil, told "CBS Sunday Morning."
"You look at the operation of this White House and you have to say, 'Let's hope to God we don't have a crisis.'"

It's already on back order in hard copy. Amazon says they sold out and it will take a few weeks to get more. If you order it from Amazon while it is on backorder, you can get it for $18. Kindle seems to be the way to go.

I did not want to read the book until I heard it was nearly sold out. Now something in my subconscious says I need to go buy a copy before somebody else gets it.

"Don't you think people look through the fact that you can write a sensational, nonsense book, CNN will definitely have you on there because they love to trash the president," Trump said, responding to Fox and Friends host Steve Doocy, who asked if the book detailed "chaos" in the White House.
"It will mean you sell three extra books, you make three extra shekels," Trump continued. "Is that really where we are? I think people see through this."

Also sheqel. a paper money, cupronickel or silver coin, and monetary unit of Israel equal to 100 agorot: replaced the pound in 1980.

It's what the left does best these days. They don't have an actual political message that appeals to a lot of people so they have to resort to slandering the opposition however they can.

Just look what cwolff said about Trump asking his secretary of state to look into the South African's government plan of forcibly taking away land from white land owners: OMG! Trump is worried about the same thing that white nationalists are worried about! This proves he's a racist!

He legit said this (I'm paraphrasing him here.)

You know how conservatives like to call progressives sensitive snowflakes? Well some people have started the claim that this proves they are Nazis because Nazis supposedly referred to the ashes of humans as snowflakes.

Look at Pepe the Frog for crying out loud. A stupid cartoon frog that was co-opted as the official mascot of a made up country called Kekistan where all of the shitposters live and now the left associates the frog as a white supremacist symbol.

How about the okay hand gesture? Now it's a white supremacist symbol after some in Trump's administration/campaign were "caught" using it.

Bob Woodward's new book, "Fear: Trump in the White House," sold more than 750,000 copies through its first day of release, the most for any title in Simon & Schuster history, according to the 94-year-old publisher.
...
The publisher also announced that it ordered a ninth printing, sending the total number of hardcover copies in print above 1.15 million.

"Based on immense pre-publication and ongoing interest, the reading public clearly has an enormous appetite for what we believe, as Woodward says, is 'a pivot point in history,'" said Simon & Schuster President Jonathan Karp in a Wednesday statement.

Barnes & Noble, meanwhile, said "Fear" has had the "fastest sales for an adult title” since July 2015.

"I know about that incident and that was wholly appropriate for Gary Cohn, who was a wonderful public servant and a great colleague, to do," McMaster said during an appearance an event held by Perry World House.
He was responding to a question about whether removing papers from the desk of a commander in chief fits the role of a civil servant, since he had argued it isn't their job to check a democratically elected president's power but rather to help make him or her successful.

US President Donald Trump said Monday that his 2017 decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem and recognize the city as the capital of Israel was done for evangelical Christians.

“And we moved the capital of Israel to Jerusalem,” Trump said at a rally held at an airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, apparently referring to his decision to move the embassy from Tel Aviv. “That’s for the evangelicals.”
