Complaint alleges Maine Democratic Party helped launder millions for Hillary Clinton

Backer's complaint and subsequent lawsuit filed with the FEC allege "an unprecedented nationwide scheme to violate federal campaign finance law in which $84 million was effectively laundered over more than a year by the Hillary Victory Fund (HVF) through dozens of state political party committees to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and, ultimately, to Hillary for America (HFA)."

They basically thought they were going to win, no one would care and they wouldn't get caught any way,

I had to check the date because the HVF money trail has been reported on and known about since at least 2015. The article is correct that it's technically legal and the Rs do it too, but fixing it would require campaign finance reform, and that's not something either side is willing to commit to.

I was expecting the article to be a couple years old as well.

The only part of the article I'm finding that says it's legal is in a statement made by a DNC chairperson. I think the big question is, did HFA actually redistribute that money or did it all go to Hillary?

To clarify, by 'technically legal' I mean it's probably not explicitly illegal, and won't be changed without reform. Ultimately I think this is just one party trying to get some points in for the midterms.

As far as I'm aware, Clinton didn't keep the campaign money (it's supposed to be returned to the party or given to charities) and I haven't seen anyone suggest otherwise.
