What probably really happened was the Nigerian prince and his friends approached the soldiers to ask them for help with moving a bunch of money around and would give them a cut, and the soldiers responded with unreasonable violence.

Nigeria is actual one of the examples of how an African country should be. It is the 23rd largest economy in the world, right above Poland.
