President to Address the Nation Monday Night

Those of you who survive the eclipse should watch Donald Trump reveal the plan for Afghanistan is a national address. During the 2016 campaign, Trump said he had a plan, but he wouldn't tell anybody what it was because he needed to keep it secret until he was ready to implement it. That time has arrived.


Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump will outline the United States' "path forward" in Afghanistan in a speech Monday night, the White House announced Sunday.

Trump's address, scheduled for 9 p.m. ET Monday at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, comes as Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis have said a decision has been made on a new US strategy in Afghanistan.

Earlier Sunday, Mattis confirmed a decision has been made, but declined to offer details about the decision, saying Trump would choose when to make the announcement.

After seeing the eclipse, Trump revealed the plan for Afghanistan last night. Since I know you watched it, I'll just say what I thought were the two most important points. First, we are going to use unspecified resources of Afghanistan to pay for the war effort. Second, the rest of the plan is still secret, except that it will be aimed at killing terrorists, instead of building governments. Those are both the sort of strong moves you would expect from someone who can look directly at the sun.
