The Supreme Court on Monday struck down part of a law that bans offensive trademarks in a ruling that is expected to help the Washington Redskins in their legal fight over the team name.
The justices ruled that the 71-year-old trademark law barring disparaging terms infringes on free speech rights.
The ruling is a victory for an Asian-American rock band called the Slants, but the case was closely watched for the impact it would have on a separate dispute involving Washington's football team.

People are free to say what they want. Sure. People are also free to tell people how big of a jackass they are for saying certain things.

Um, why would I do that? I'm not some dumbass that likes to create videos just to prove some kind of point or elicit a reaction.
Just like usual though, the purpose of this post goes straight over your head. Unitl today, the trademark office COULD refuse your trademark requests due to "offensive" terms.

You still wouldn't do anything about it if he (or anyone) did that.
Tough guy.
I wonder if I can trademark the word nigga. I'd make billions off of rappers and suburban white kids.

Oh no. I got the jist of the post. Just your statement of "I guess all the offended crybabies of the US need to suck it the fuck up, eh? Free Speech, ain't it a bitch." is really over the top. The law protects all of us, you included.

No, you apparently didn't understand it at all. People were going after the Redskins organizations on these grounds. This case basically just shut that the fuck down.

I'm well aware. It was based on a band calling themselves The Slants.
