Trump says that Flynn is innocent and that investigations of Flynn should stop. Why doesn't Trump just pardon him? It is well established that the President can pardon someone for a crime at any time after the crime is committed, regardless of whether or not the person has been charged or convicted.

What strategic benefit does Trump gain from abandoning Flynn, at least for the moment? Is Trump withholding a pardon for Flynn's benefit or for Trump's benefit? I think it has something to do with the 5th Amendment.

If you accept a Presidential pardon, you are legally admitting guilt.
