A third party, unaffiliated website, is transmitting unknown information to a company that you pay money to play. If you are comfortable with not knowing exactly what is being sent, thats on you. I am not comfortable with that arrangement, undocumented or agreed upon. There is also nothing in the Terms of Service that allows simutronics to collect information from third party sources that anyone agreed to.

This x100. I'm quite sure there are legal ramifications here, even more so should Simutronics actually take action based on third party information that may or may not be accurate, in which was not explicitly agreed upon to be provided and/or collected. I would imagine the company purchasing quite a large stake in Simutronics would probably want to know those details as well.

You have access to information others do not, it is possible you have access to information that Simutronics does not. Information that is above and beyond the agreement laid out when signing up for the service. There is also the need to secure and protect sensative information, similiar to HIPAA, that may not be taken into account through these forums. Sending information to a business that has an agreement with its users/clients/customers that they would not normally have access to and do not disclose having access to opens them up to legal ramifications. In addition, they may lose two accounts if a real solid answer is not provided in the near future.

Nothing to date has been provided to help us identity scammers. It was simply a gesture that it can be done. We would never use anything conclusively from the PC. The only thing we would do with information from the PC is see if it helps connect any dots. We have our own tools to track anything in game.

To be candid Wyrom, as Product Manager I would rather you stay somewhat aloof and not try to build any personal relationships with individual players. As a SGM, maybe, but even that's kind of a grey area. But, being a salaried full time employee of Simutronics I think you need to present yourself as a benign omniscient overlord and not get too chummy with specific customers. Not that it wasn't a good idea, but Gemstone being what it is it could make people question the legitimacy of certain key aspects of the game.

Also, you can call me paranoid for saying this but I don't think you knew Sashafierce's past transgressions with the community. More importantly, I think Sashafierce realized this and that is why he immediately began to erase past posts by him and his alts so to avoid a casual background check by you. Again, it may all be conspiracy theory paranoia but one has to wonder. What is for certain is my hope that everything turns out OK in the end.

That was my initial thought as well but I'm not sure that's a safe assumption for an infrequently updated vbulletin site that's been around for over a decade at this point. Hopefully that happened during one of the migrations or updates, but I wouldn't bet on it. Regardless of how the passwords are stored, I think that this site is running a modern enough version of vbulletin that moderators probably can't access raw passwords. Kranar or someone with db access might be able to get them though. Unfortunately this could also be a bad actor exploiting a bug in vbulletin.

Reason mine had phpbb on it was because by default vbulletin didn't have a way to hide sections of the forum from the feed, which was the concern when it was requested alternate forums be made back a ways. Currently, we're looking at hosting an vbulletin copy of these forums on crystalamulet.com, run by Cleodelia, which considering that for the people who play Gemstone still, buying/selling is the main function of the PC, is appropriate. That will also alleviate any potential concern about me moderating. I have no desire to moderate, and even if I did do so as impartially as possible, I take sides in personal matters far too often in non-moderation capacity that I would be a poor choice of moderator. If he wants the job, Ardwen would be the super moderator, and his choice of whoever, if anyone else, for the rest. We'll see about coding in functionality to hide sections (politics) from the feed as well.

That seems like the most appropriate and simple solution. Crystalamulet.com has been hosted locally and uninterrupted for more than a decade and is in no danger of going down, and even short of this Alastir BS, the owner of that server is at least active and responsive.

The only person to blame for the non-stop idiocy is Kalros. He created this entire headache for everyone. When I lived in an apartment they allowed either, but the pet deposit for a cat was cheaper. Still, got the dog instead. Got a small one though, because I didn't feel it was right to have a large dog in an apartment.

But yes I saw that post too and like I suggested the best thing to do to a post before you delete it is to edit the post and replace all text with a period or letter or something. The reason being deleting posts doesn't really delete them, it just hides them from the public. Mods and admins and what not can see deleted posts but they can't see what the post used to say before it was edited.
