Should we even have one this year? You may remember that Trump attended the 2011 dinner and was not at all pleased that Obama (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TwRmX6zs4) and Seth Meyers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Km4R377s4M) directed jokes his way. Trump called Meyers a "stutterer (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/donald-trump-slammed-by-stuttering-184153)." Who could they possibly get to host it who wouldn't cause an incident? I'm betting it won't be Seth Meyers.
Given the open hostility that Mr. Trump and his administration have displayed for the news media, some journalists have wondered if the Correspondents’ Association dinner is a tradition worth preserving. Would Mr. Trump even attend this year, and what entertainer could make jokes about him without getting underneath his oft-demonstrated thin skin? Comedians have only started figuring out how to riff on Mr. Trump as president, and there is a wide gulf between what Trump supporters and detractors think is funny about him.
The White House Correspondents’ Association “looks forward to hosting our annual dinner this year as we do every year to celebrate the First Amendment, reward some of the finest reporting of the past year and recognize promising young student journalists,” its president, Jeff Mason, said in a statement.

Why do the comedians need to make fun of Trump? From what I recall almost all jokes during Obama's time in office were not directed at him.
Didn't they get that unfunny black lesbian bitch for Obama's first one and she said Rush Limbaugh was one of the 9-11 attackers?

Because free speech? Kind of the whole point of the press, and it's a press event. And why not make fun of Trump?

My point was they didn't spend much time making fun of Obama, why is making fun of the president suddenly a requirement?

The guy has been roasted before, I think he can handle some jibes by the press. Like he did then, he'll likely just give them a category or two that's off limits.

The WHCA's annual dinner, begun in 1920, has become a Washington, D.C. tradition and is usually attended by the president and vice president.[1] Fifteen presidents have attended at least one WHCA dinner, beginning with Calvin Coolidge in 1924.[1] The dinner is traditionally held on the evening of the last Saturday in April at the Washington Hilton.
Until 1962, the dinner was open only to men, even though WHCA's membership included women. At the urging of Helen Thomas, President John F. Kennedy refused to attend the dinner unless the ban on women was dropped.[4]
Prior to World War II, the annual dinner featured singing between courses, a homemade movie and an hour-long, post-dinner show with big-name performers.[1] Since 1983, however, the featured speaker has usually been a comedian, with the dinner taking on the form of a roast of the president and his administration.
The Dinner is a scholarship benefit for gifted students in college journalism programs.
Many annual dinners were cancelled or downsized due to deaths or political crises. The dinner was cancelled in 1930 due to the death of former president William Howard Taft; in 1942, following the United States' entry into World War II; and in 1951, over what President Harry S. Truman called the "uncertainty of the world situation."[5] -Wikipedia
It hasn't suddenly become a requirement. They've been roasting the president since 1983. Prior events were less roasty.

It's hard to poke fun at the president, because he's so likable. Everybody likes him! People are dedicating songs to him. People love you, you know! Even the media loves you, you guys really like him. It's funny they never caught you smoking but they always caught you with your shirt off. I know you're into this transparency thing but I don't need to see your nipples! But this is amazing, you know, the first black president! I thought you would stop playing basketball when you became president, are you even any good? They let you win because of the secret service. But that's the thing about you, sir, you're so likeable because you're so accessible. You take the first lady out on dates.
President Bush though, he knows how to leave town doesn't he? We haven't heard anything about him since he left. He's like that house guest who broke something and leaves before anyone can find out. He broke a lot of stuff sir. He broke a lot of stuff. And there are a lot of things that need to be fixed. And you're trying to help, and I'm amazed there are a lot of people that don't want your help.
I notice Palin is not here tonight, she pulled out at the last minute. Someone should probably tell her that's not really how you practice abstinence.
These states, they need the money, especially our school systems, I'm so happy that you're doing something about education and want to pay our teachers more.
You want to raise taxes, and I think it's great, I don't mind paying more in taxes and paying my fair share.
The first lady, beautiful as always, you look very nice. And how dare you people give her grief about showing her arms. And you have lovely arms, so I'm glad you're showing off your arms. You have beautiful arms, unlike some of those previous first ladies, they need sleeves, they need ponchos.
Why did you give the queen an ipod? You should have given her a momento of America, give her Texas.
Mr. McCain I'm sure if you ask nicely your wife will buy you a new helicopter.
Rush Limbaugh is one of your biggest critics, he hopes you fail. So he's saying I hope America fails, he doesn't care about people losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq, he just wants this country to fail. That's treason. He's not saying anything different than what Osama Bin Laden is saying. I think Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker but he was so strung out on oxycodone he missed his flight. Rush Limbaugh, I hope his kidneys fail. He needs to be waterboarded, that's what he needs.
I can break Sean Hannity just by giving him a middle seat in coach.
Dick Cheney, oh my God, he's a scary man. A scary man. He scares me to death. I tell my kids, I say look if two cars pull up and one has a stranger and one has Dick Cheney, you get in the car with the stranger!
They getting on your case about the dog, why didn't you get a rescue dog? Look, the man has to rescue a country that was abused by its previous owner.
OMG! So much roasting going on! That is, towards everyone but the first family.

Maher is good at times, but he's not really conservative. It would be like that time they invited Colbert to the roast without realizing his persona was satirical.

Trump has been roasted on comedy central by a panel of Comedians. He'd do fine with one handpicked one.

He was paid between $400k and $2m for that. The Daily News and TMZ say $2m, this article and the Washington Post say $400k.

By "not really conservative" do you mean liberal.. or do you believe he's leans to the right?

I meant it mostly in the context of finding a conservative comedian for the dinner. Maher refers to himself as a Libertarian, but Libertarians tend to be off-brand Republicans in most aspects and he is definitely not.

I suppose in this new age of self identification, people can call themselves whatever they want.
He's far more liberal than conservative.

You still sad and crying? Fucking snowflake.
Oops, I triggered somebody. Naturally, the irony here is that Trump and his supporters are the new "snowflakes," taking offense at anything and everything that shines a negative light on Trumplethinskin.
By all means, though, keep being offended; it's cute. Almost, but not quite, as cute as PB's chosen venue for political discourse being a forum for a text-based game he doesn't even play anymore.

What does politics have to do with Gemstone IV?
If only the people who played Gemstone were the only people still posting, this place would have been shut down years ago.

He's probably one of the most prominent muslim comedians (it's a short list) so I imagine the choice is very intentional.
