Really? Why? Disappointed.

No idea. I guess he was considered the "safe" pick.. but I'm surprised Trump went with safe.

I knew it wouldn't be Christie.. he will probably be the AG. Honestly, I thought it would be Gingrich.

What does Pence bring to the ticket? I guess a politician, someone who Trump said he wanted to help him navigate the bureaucracy.

I honestly don't know much about him.

Guy sounds like a complete loser.

In Congress, Pence was a champion of conservative and religious causes. He voted against measures aimed at preventing LGBT discrimination and helping families in poverty, and he supported federal legislation prohibiting same-sex marriage. As governor of Indiana, Pence has brought this Religious Right-friendly agenda to the state and enacted a number of stringent socially conservative measures.

Yeah, that. Pence literally doesn't bring anything else to the ticket otherwise.

On his campaign site in 2000, Pence wrote that smoking “doesn’t kill (http://web.archive.org/web/20010415085348/http://mikepence.com/smoke.html)” and concerns about the lethal impact of smoking were a product of “hysteria from the political class and the media.”

Time for a quick reality check. Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn’t kill. In fact, 2 out of every three smokers does not die from a smoking related illness and 9 out of ten smokers do not contract lung cancer.

Pence said that the real danger to the public was not cigarettes but “back-handed big government disguised in do-gooder healthcare rhetoric.”

While other legislators around the country started to ease tough drug sentences, Pence pushed for draconian marijuana penalties (http://www.mintpressnews.com/backed-by-prison-indiana-governor-proposes-tougher-marijuana-laws/58595/) as governor in 2013, explicitly raising the concern that low-level drug offenders were not facing sufficient punishment.

This year, he signed into law new mandatory minimums (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/4/1/1198564/-Indiana-Governor-Rewards-Private-Prison-Lobby-with-Draconian-Marijuana-Punishments) for certain kinds of drug use and distribution. As he’s overseen these harsh sentencing initiatives, he’s raked in cash from the private prison lobby, particularly from GEO Group, which operates a prison in Indiana and was one of the biggest donors to Pence’s campaigns.

But Pence’s penchant for private prisons started decades ago, when he ran a think tank in the 1990s that called for prisons to be privatized and suggested that inmates be required to work to pay for the costs of their own incarceration (https://twitter.com/lhfang/status/753631874988150784).

Unless it's money. The Trump campaign needs money. Trump either does not have the cash necessary to finance his campaign, or he's unwilling to spend it. Pence has the support of the Koch brothers. The Koch brothers planned (http://www.politico.com/story/2015/01/koch-2016-spending-goal-114604) to spend $900 million on the 2016 campaign, but they had second thoughts when Trump won the nomination. Pence is a Koch favorite. The question is whether they like him enough to spend heavily when he is just a VP candidate. You can be sure Trump explored that question in making his decision, just as he considered whether Adelson's fondness for Gingrich would translate into financial support with Gingrich on the ticket.

Pence is a Koch favorite. The question is whether they like him enough to spend heavily when he is just a VP candidate.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has been a favorite of the Koch political operation and a featured speaker at Koch-backed events. But that doesn't mean his selection to be Donald Trump's running mate would mobilize the network of conservative nonprofit groups in support of the Republican presidential ticket.

"It doesn't change our engagement on the presidential," James Davis, a spokesman for Freedom Partners, the network's funding arm, said on Thursday. "We are going to remain focused on the Senate."

So let me get this straight....Trump delays the news conference to announce its Pence out of "respect" for the victims in Nice, and then ends up tweeting that its Pence at the exact same time he was supposed to have the news conference?

Yeah, there's no respect involved here, he must've screwed something up and felt he needed extra time. (and then forgot Pence had a filing deadline of noon to drop out of the Indiana governor's race)

I don't like Pence as his pick myself, but I will have to do more research on him I suppose. But not liking what I'm hearing so far.

I had sort of hoped that Trump would really do something crazy, yet IMO would have been an amazing pick for VP... someone like Dianne Feinstein. But she is way to old for it I suppose. But I like her stance/experience with international and security matters. The fact she is a Democrat might actually lead to some bipartisan compromise in Government moving forward. But as stands, sounds like another ho hum election cycle.

In my opinion, the Trump campaign is a group of disorganized buffoons that have no clue how to run a general election campaign. Trump's still only got 70 paid staffers. Clinton's got 700. He's still running no ads. Clinton's been running ads in all the battleground states. It's going to become more and more apparent to the general electorate about how badly he's running his campaign as we get closer to Election Day. This stuff matters.

When Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence was a talk radio show host in Indiana, he wrote an op-ed declaring the film Mulan was an attempt by some “mischievous liberal” at Disney to influence the debate over women in the military.

More... (https://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/mister-ill-make-a-man-out-of-you)

“Despite her delicate features and voice, Disney expects us to believe that Mulan’s ingenuity and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal basis with her cloddish cohorts,” wrote Pence. “Obviously, this is Walt Disney’s attempt to add childhood expectation to the cultural debate over the role of women in the military.”

Kasich really blew it.

One day this past May, Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., reached out to a senior adviser to Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, who left the presidential race just a few weeks before. As a candidate, Kasich declared in March that Trump was “really not prepared to be president of the United States,” and the following month he took the highly unusual step of coordinating with his rival Senator Ted Cruz in an effort to deny Trump the nomination. But according to the Kasich adviser (who spoke only under the condition that he not be named), Donald Jr. wanted to make him an offer nonetheless: Did he have any interest in being the most powerful vice president in history?

When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.

Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?

“Making America great again” was the casual reply.
