For the first time in the history of the US (http://qz.com/701167/hillary-clinton-is-the-first-woman-to-become-a-major-party-presidential-nominee/), a woman is the nominee for a major political party.

Regardless of your political affiliations, this is a massive milestone for our country. We can finally tell every little girl, you really can be whatever you want to be when you grow up.

You aren't. Even in Bernie dropped, it isn't official until then. That is why they are using the term Presumptive Nominee for Trump. Shit can still happen. A Presumptive Nominee could just say fuck it and run off to Amazonia to form a cult of firewalkers, for example.

Yah, exactly. :)

The superdelegates in play make it so if they want to put in Joe "because fuck you, that's why" Biden in, they could.

Frankly, its not a bad idea.

Lets face it, this election cycle has been a disaster, and instead of leading the free world we are being mocked.

At this point, both of the presumptive nominees have major legal issues pending which could derail them at any point, Trump could in fact perjure himself with his bombastic what passes at wit at his fraud trial for TrumpU, and Hillary could be indicted for her issues putting national security at risk.

I'm a card carrying Republican and I will not vote for Trump. The majority of the Republican field was pretty bad. Carly Fiorina had a few new ideas but the dumb idea to be VP before Cruz was even at the 1/2way point tarnished her, Kasich exists on life support but he's actually the best of the bunch. I frankly expect Cruz to lose next time he runs, and Rubio isn't even defending his seat at this moment according to reports.

The democratic establishment wanted Hillary, the popular vote goes to Bernie, and neither would be a good choice. Biden would have made things a bit more interesting as I could see him flipping off his debate opponent but he actually knows a few things which surprises many.

If General Patreaus hadn't made a dumb move because of his dick, he'd likely have run for the GOP and I expect him to in 2020. I'm wondering if Gary Johnson and Bill Weld can get enough money together to make a credible 3rd party libertarian attempt, and there is enough money out there who aren't thrilled with the current choices that a 4th group, a Come to Jesus moment where the left leaning GOPers and right leaning Dems put together a compromise ticket.

It will be interesting. Get the popcorn.

I could care less if our president has a dick, or a pussy. Long as they do a good job. Hell, our President could have a dick, a pussy, AND 3 tits, and if they were doing a good job, Great.

Will Hillary do a good job... ~I~ don't think so. She certainly didn't do one as Sec of State.

Next you are going to say that Trump should drop out because it would be sexist to run against the first woman for president. A MAN shouldn't stand in her way.

None of the emails on Clinton's server were marked as classified at the time they were sent, but 2,093 email chains on the server were later retroactively marked as classified by the State Department. Sixty-five of those emails were found to contain information classified as "Secret"; more than 20 contained "Top-Secret" information; and the rest contained "Confidential" information. Of the 2,100 emails, Clinton personally wrote 104 and her aides wrote the rest.

A main point of contention in the controversy is if Clinton passed information through her mail server that was classified at the time, which would be improper because it was a private, non-secured channel.

If Obama lets this slide there is going to be a massive shitstorm coming from the intelligence and military agencies.

Oh they do, and then some. She may have had Pagliano wipe the system in their house but the backup server was being run by Platte River. When they were told to start deleting Platte River got nervous and contacted the FBI. On top of that Platte River was hosting a backup of the backup on a cloud server run by Datto, which also turned over their stuff to the FBI.

The FBI has everything. Hillary's interview isn't even needed at this point.

One of my FB friends, obviously a huge Bernie supporter, just posted this....

From Annie Boutelle: WHAT THE MEDIA IS HIDING: BERNIE JUST MADE HISTORY
Last night, Bernie won Montana and North Dakota. Here are the implications:
(1) Bernie won 22 states, which is more than any second place finisher in Democratic Party history (and more than any Republican except Reagan in 1976). That should be enough to keep him in the race through the convention.
(2) The delegate math might favor Hillary, but the state math favors Bernie. Excluding the 8 virtual ties (within 1% of the vote or 1 delegate), Bernie has won more states than Hillary: 22 to her 20. He's also won more states by landslide margins (greater than 10%): 20 to her 18. No candidate in any party has ever won the most landslide victories and gone on to lose the nomination.
(3) The 8 virtual ties – states tied within or 1% of the vote or 1 delegate (excluding contests with a tiny number of delegates, like Guam) – are the most in the primary history of any party. It’s suspicious that the record-breaking 8 virtual ties were ALL “won” by Hillary. That 0.4%-chance occurrence points to fraud. Even if Bernie only won half of those states and NONE of the other fishy contests with larger margins, he would have won more states than Hillary.
(4) The estimated number of provisional ballot voters, purged voters, and caucus participants (which the media conveniently likes to forget) across all states is in the millions. If Bernie won most of those, he would have easily taken the popular vote. And statistical analyses show that if all the states had same-day registration or had been open to independents or both, Bernie would have won in a landslide.
In short, Bernie would have dominated a fair election, and he still can win this election, unfair as it might be. We will not let the entrenched establishment or biased media take away our democracy.
Let’s make the best case possible to the super delegates to support Bernie. First, let’s speak their language: money. Bernie is close to outraising Hillary overall, and if he can finish strong in June and July, that’s very convincing evidence of his breadwinning capabilities for the party. Second, nothing is more imposing than 1,000,000 protestors on your doorstep; let’s descend on Philadelphia en masse during the convention, starting July 25.
The people have spoken, and we want President Sanders. As long as we continue speaking, this is not over; do not let the media or anyone else convince you otherwise. Together, we are unstoppable.

I personally think he should run third party. The Democrats have been completely unfair to Bernie Sanders and he needs to show them that he can beat Hillary in a General Election.

Yah, exactly. :) The superdelegates in play make it so if they want to put in Joe "because fuck you, that's why" Biden in, they could. Frankly, its not a bad idea. ~PaulThere are only 712 superdelegates, they couldn't get anywhere near the 2382 needed for a candidate with no ordinary delegates to win the nomination.
The democratic establishment wanted Hillary, the popular vote goes to Bernie, and neither would be a good choice. Biden would have made things a bit more interesting as I could see him flipping off his debate opponent but he actually knows a few things which surprises many. One thing time4fun is correct about is that Hillary actually has a significant lead in the popular vote, well over three million votes.

Won't Melania also be the first naturalized first lady? So now little girls all over the world can grow up knowing that maybe someday they can be married to the most powerful person in the world.

Also I thought it was funny that a leftest news article ran stating Trump will be the first US president without any military or political experience, and of course they were spinning it to be a bad thing, but isn't that yet another first for our country? Now little boys and girls can grow up knowing they don't have to be pigeon holed into pursuing a military or political career to be president.

Very relevant considering communist California had the chance to vote in their own form of single payer health insurance and rejected it when they saw the tax they were going to have to pay. Where's the compassion?

For the first time in the history of the US, a woman is the nominee for a major political party and was defeated.

Regardless of your political affiliations, this is a massive milestone for our country. We can finally tell every little girl, you really can be whatever you want to be when you grow up as long as you want to lose.

I would have voted for Fiorina...maybe. Ok, probably not, but not because shes a woman. If there were a viable female candidate, I'd have no problems voting for them.

As the father of a daughter, I tell her all the time that she can do whatever she wants to do when she grows up. She can be anything she wants to be. This world isn't the world of our great-great-grandmothers, just fighting to be able to VOTE...female leaders are becoming quite the norm in the rest of the world. The US hasn't quite caught up, because...really...who do we have? Who HAVE we had?

I didn't see the female (left) vote turning out in droves to elect Sarah Palin as VP, although that would have been a historic milestone for women. Carly Fiorina got even less support. This year, we had Hillary Clinton...if that's the best the females in the US can come up with, well...its no wonder we haven't elected a woman yet. I suppose its a milestone we got one as far as a general election, though, right?

Tell you what...find me a woman who is electable, from either camp, within the sphere of US politics...and I'll gladly vote for her, Dem or Repub...though I'd prefer "other".

I truly dream of the day that a Libertarian woman comes into the national forefront of politics and just sweeps everything away. I wouldn't put it past them, women have influenced some amazing movements in US history. I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what it takes.

Until then, I guess I'll just sit back and be a misogynistic white guy, praying for a solid female leader.

Ja, that's what Libertarians are all about. Diversity. That's why they're 70% male and of that 70%, 94% white, non-hispanic male. :D

At the moment, unless Libertarianism makes at least an attempt to appeal to women or...literally anyone other than white males, it's just another crackpot fringe movement. You know. Like the Green Party. Or the Third Reich. I looked up reasons for women to support Libertarianism before this post, and the number one result out of very few results was "Legal midwifery". That's all well and good, but it sort of fails to hit 99.999999% of all women's concerns in 2016.

Nothing against any of the sentiments you've displayed in your post. Those are all noble and I agree with them. I just think you might be barking up the wrong tree if you're holding your breath for a female Libertarian candidate with mass appeal unless something changes drastically.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congress certified Donald Trump's presidential victory Friday over the objections of a handful of House Democrats, with Vice President Joe Biden pronouncing, "It is over."
House Democrats objected to the votes from at least 10 states, raising issues of voter suppression as well as American intelligence showing that Russia tried to sway the election in favor of Trump. In each case, their objections were denied because they didn't have the support of any senators.
All 538 electors met in their respective state capitals in December to cast their votes. Friday's vote count made it official. Biden presided over the count in his role as president of the Senate.
Trump finished with 304 electoral votes and Democrat Hillary Clinton got 227. There were seven protest votes for other candidates. It takes 270 Electoral College votes to win the presidency.
As expected, Mike Pence was elected vice president.
Trump and Pence are to be sworn in on Jan. 20.
As the votes were announced for state after state, Democratic members of the House stood up to object. But in each case, no Democratic senator would join them, and Biden cut them off.
"There can be no debate," Biden said repeatedly.
Under federal law, if at least one senator and one House member object to the vote from any state, the House and Senate will meet separately to debate the merits of the objection.
Toward the end of the count, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., pleaded for a senator to join her in objecting.
"Is there one United States senator who will join me in this letter of objection?" Waters said to boos from Republicans. None did.
After the vote, Biden told some of the House Democrats who tried to object why he had cut them off.
"Basically, it was the rules and we understand that," said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, who led the effort to object to Trump's election.
Lee and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus wanted to bring attention to strict voter ID laws in some states that they say suppress voters.
"The real question was about the principles of Democracy and the sacredness of the vote and the very high calling of a presidential election," Lee said.
The objections added a bit of acrimony to the end of a nasty presidential election. Not surprisingly, several protesters were ejected from the public gallery as the vote count concluded.
Trump won even though Clinton received nearly 2.9 million more votes. His election has generated much angst among Democrats and others who oppose the billionaire businessman. But they have been powerless to change the outcome.
Despite rumblings of a revolt, only two Republican electors - both from Texas - cast protest votes for someone other than Trump. Clinton lost four Democratic electors in Washington state and one in Hawaii.
On Friday morning, Trump went on Twitter to provide another assessment of the election.
"Hillary and the Dems were never going to beat the PASSION of my voters. They saw what was happening in the last two weeks before the (election) and knew they were in big trouble - which is why they cancelled their big fireworks at the last minute. THEY SAW A MOVEMENT LIKE NEVER BEFORE," Trump wrote.
