So now someone that commits a felon, or is convicted of a crim, is not supposed to be called a felon or convict because..... it's disparaging?
Instead they are going to refer to them as.. “person who committed a crime” and “individual who was incarcerated”.
So.. what are we going to call a murder in the future... "person who took a life against the other person's will" or a rapist "person who indulged in surprise sex".
Seriously, can someone please explain to me what the fuck these people are thinking?
First.. we can't call someone who violates a law, an illegal. Now this.

Silly anti-PC rhetoric aside, I believe the general idea is to not label a person for his or her entire life as a felon, convict, etc. Which makes sense when you consider that the point of a temporary prison sentence is reform/rehabilitation. At least in principle. In practice, of course, American prisons fucking suck.

The legislature can disagree with him all it wants, until the State appeals courts do, it doesn't matter. It is just bringing his state in line with 39 other states. They have to have completed jail time, parole, and probation. People are making a bigger deal of it then what it really is.

Sorry.. but if you robbed a bank and shot someone in the attempt, serve 10 years and are left out, you are still a fucking bank robber. I would love to see that person apply for a job at a bank and say.. NO.. the DoJ says I am not that anymore because I served my time.
So here is the question....
You get convicted of child rape.
You serve your time and are left out. NOW... based on what the DoJ says.. they should NOT be able to label you a sex offender, because that is "Derogatory". So.. when they add your ass to the database that you can't live within x of a school and such.. are they violating their own policy? Can sex offenders now sue the government for civil rights infractions?

Which the court can shut down. Either way, on to the main topic.... Do I think that felons should remain felons for life? I think it depends on the crime, honestly. I think a felony should only be issued for violent and potentially violent crimes. Should they remain a felon forever after they did their time? Yes. I do, however, think state and federally run public works projects should be expanded, to give these otherwise blacklisted people a chance at work instead of crime. Run it exactly like the military, with a military pay scale and a barracks. They'd be used to it, they just got out of prison. Of course, it'll be a completely voluntary thing.
It'll teach them trades and all that. We have tons of bad bridges, fucked up roads, bad infrastructure, etc., and a giant pool of people to draw from.

Unpunished, unconvicted, and presumably unremorseful white collar criminals run the world. No thought follows that except that I have no problem with criminals convicted of non violent crimes and who subsequently paid their debt to society in full being allowed to vote and do other things the rest of us do regularly. Labeling those folks as "felons" is simply unnecessarily petty.
Violent criminals can rot in hell.

As many know, I have been running credit bureaus for years.
So this stuff has come down hard into my bailiwick as the head of compliance.
For years, the EEOC has banned the use of arrest records in employment decisions. As of 4/2016, its now banned in housing decisions per HUD's general legal counsel I don't know about you, but I don't want to live next to a drug dealing rapist who is smart enough to not get convicted, but at least you have a conviction record to deny them right?
Right????
Ummm, not so quick.
You now have to consider WHEN the record was, WHAT it was for, and prove a legitimate reason to deny housing or employment. You have to have it quite documented your reasons WHY its a problem and go out of your way to prove that it does not have a disparate impact on certain populations.
Also we are supposed to use the term 'justice involved' when discussing those persons and their records.
Property owners and managers are lost on this one.

Of all of the things going on in the "justice" system- the fact that we have more people incarcerated per capita than almost any other country in the world, the fact that people of color are MUCH more likely to be convicted of crimes, the fact that felons lose the most fundamental rights to citizenship, the fact that we've privatized prisons, which is resulting in egregious human rights abuses- and the thing you're pissed off about is that the Justice department decided to use more humanizing language to refer to people in the system.
I love how conservatives act like the worst thing that ever happened to them was waking up one morning and no longer being allowed to refer to women and minorities in dehumanizing ways, or being expected to to use words like "people" when describing human beings who have committed crimes. Like it was some massive infringements on their civil rights to treat people horribly with no consequences.
Then they turn around and tell black people to get over slavery and Jim Crowe.
Sorry, people make mistakes- sometimes horrible ones- but they're still people. And it's okay that *other people* have decided to refer to them as such.

My point the whole time, had this been a right winger and not killed people, liberals would be asking the very same questions I'm asking. Do you find it good policy for a College to hire domestic terrorists ? This has nothing to do with the loss of life, but rather an attack on a federal building. Of course blowing up government buildings and blowing up mini-Auschwitz's are kind of hard to put on the same page.

Uh, what?
April 1, 2012: A bomb exploded on the windowsill of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, resulting in a fire that damaged one of the clinic's examination rooms. No injuries were reported.
Wisconsin is in the US. Just because it isn't a giant bomb that blows up the entire building doesn't mean it wasn't a bomb.
January 1, 2012: Bobby Joe Rogers, 41, firebombed the American Family Planning Clinic in Pensacola, Florida, with a Molotov cocktail; the fire gutted the building. Rogers told investigators that he was motivated to commit the crime by his opposition to abortion, and that what more directly prompted the act was seeing a patient enter the clinic during one of the frequent anti-abortion protests there. The clinic had previously been bombed at Christmas in 1984 and was the site of the murder of Dr. John Britton and James Barrett in 1994.
Firebombing is still bombing. This destroyed the entire building.
April 25, 2007: A package left at a women's health clinic in Austin, Texas, contained an explosive device capable of inflicting serious injury or death. A bomb squad detonated the device after evacuating the building. Paul Ross Evans (who had a criminal record for armed robbery and theft) was found guilty of the crime.
This person TRIED to bomb it, but the police foiled it.
June 11, 2001: An unsolved bombing at a clinic in Tacoma, Washington, destroyed a wall, resulting in $6,000 in damages.
Another bomb.
January 1997: Eric Rudolph admitted, as part of a plea deal for the Centennial Olympic Park bombing at the 1996 Olympic Games to placing a pair of bombs that exploded at the Northside Family Planning Services clinic in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs.
Oh look....
Okay dude, your 30 year thing is wrong.

I think the point is being missed here, how does a domestic terrorist become a college professor? Who makes this kind of a decision? "Hey you know the dude we were looking at is ok, but this Ayers guy, that fucker was building bombs and blowing up government buildings, how edgy, he's hired?"Because he was never convicted of a crime, because the evidence against him was obtained illegally. Some hold the view that people are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I don't say that judgmentally, perhaps because I don't personally hold that view, but it does exist.

First they need to go ahead and get a masters or PhD.

Yeah, that argument is only brought out by Liberals when it is convenient to them, for the rest of the Liberal diatribe, the court of public opinion is more valid. Cases in point, Trayvon Martin, Ferguson, el al.
