So is this just the latest expansion pack with run of the mill improvements or is this something much more epic? I haven't seen this much hype for a WoW expansion pack since the first expansion pack.

Nothing really revolutionary. There's a 'war mode' you can enable but it's just pvp mode for non-pvp servers. I just want my Zandalari trolls.

I really haven't looked into the details, I'm just really digging the story line.I'm also jonesing for some PvP.
Been telling myself I wouldn't pick up this xpac and hold out for classic servers, but fuck man, knowing Sylvanas has gone full tilt (or seems to have)...it has me hooked.
