Thread: Is Tesla Doomed?

    Question Is Tesla Doomed?

A sign or worse things to come, or a temporary setback?

Tesla Cybertruck Inventory Hits Crisis Levels as Pension Funds Ditch Company Stock

The crisis goes international as Denmark dumps its $20 billion Tesla stake and the largest pension fund in the Netherlands ditches its $600 million stake.

Tesla’s Cybertruck program appears to be spiraling toward catastrophe as unsold inventory skyrockets to a record-breaking 10,000 units, according to a new report.

With low demand and backlash over the active role its chief executive, Elon Musk, has taken in the Trump administration, the company is facing some of its toughest challenges since the divisive electric truck’s debut.

Ernest S. Harbaugh, a Cybertruck owner from Ohio, states that 28 children laughed at his Cybertruck after a minor problem resulted in it being towed on a flatbed.

His sad story is that he could not get his trunk open to retrieve his son's baseball glove. When he tried to drive home to get an alternate glove, the "smart" car detected that the trunk was not fully closed and, as a result, refused to move in excess of 15 mph, making his drive home impossible. It had to be towed so that Tesla technicians could reset it. I can only imagine how humiliated his son was that he could not play baseball because his family owned a Tesla.

At least they were laughing at the Cybertruck and not at Mr. Harbaugh, who apparently had plenty of time to count the exact number of laughing children.

Even Tesla employees are calling for Musk to be replaced. Read their words below..

The damage done to Elon’s personal brand is now irreversible and as the public face of Tesla, that damage has become our burden. We are now at a crossroads: continue with Elon as CEO and face further decline as customers abandon the brand, or move forward without him and allow our products and mission to succeed or fail on their own.

We vote for the latter. It’s time to say the quiet part out loud.

Elon’s recent claim that he is “refocusing” on Tesla is not only tone-deaf, it’s insulting. It implies that the hardships of the past six months stem from a lack of his attention, not from his actions. It shifts the blame onto the very people who have held this company together. Let’s be clear: we are not the problem. Our products are not the problem. Our engineering, service, and delivery teams are not the problem. The problem is demand. The problem is Elon.

    From January..

A Dutch civil-service pension fund has sold its entire stake in Tesla over disapproval of CEO Elon Musk's pay package and working conditions at the company, a report says.

Whoever made that decision in January must look like a hero in his office right now, considering how much value Tesla stock has fallen since then. When he walks by, people whisper, "That's the guy who saved our retirement."

Europeans appear more upset with Musk than Americans are upset with him.

"What we found here is clear enough. This is not a random glitch," FuelArc stated. "It wasn't a single vehicle or a one-off lemon. Tesla odometer complaints are scattered across years, models, and continents, and the pattern is not subtle: lots more miles added, no miles subtracted."

    Why is this important?
Odometer fraud — if proved true, which is far from the case as things stand — could be yet another reason why customers might shy away from purchasing Teslas. The adoption of electric vehicles is a crucial step in combating rising global temperatures and mitigating the effects of the changing climate. When they replace fuel-burning cars, EVs help cut carbon pollution and improve air quality, which reduces health issues related to air pollution.

Also, false odometer readings can impact the livelihoods of drivers. As FuelArc noted: "Mileage is real money. It impacts insurance costs, lease terms, resale values, and most importantly from an auto manufacturer's point of view, warranty coverage."

More miles means a shorter warranty. A shorter warranty means lower warranty costs for the manufacturer. Needs to be investigated.

The data comes from S&P Global and shows that the automaker's insurance subsidiary took a loss ratio of 103.3 in 2024. The loss ratio, for those who don't know, is the amount of money that Tesla pays out per claim versus the money it takes in from premiums. The lower the number, the better, and break-even is a flat 100. In 2024, the rest of the industry averaged 66.1.

Another issue has been customer satisfaction with Tesla's insurance. Owners online have sounded the alarm since the company first started offering to cover cars. The internet is peppered with horror stories about long repair times, poor communication, hours on hold waiting to talk to a human (the highest I've seen online is nearly 7 hours) and frustrating claim processes. Tesla might promise a streamlined process to insurance, but the actual execution once a payout is needed seems to be about as efficient as a traffic jam.
Tesla shareholders are losing money on Tesla's insurance endeavors. There has historically been a tenuous connection between Tesla's profitability and its stock price. The chickens are coming home to roost.

It's sad. Elon was really in a position to be a real hero to humanity until he revealed the white nationalist bullshit. That erases all the potential good he was working on. He wasn't doing it for humanity only certain people.
