It is pretty funny how comically terrible the Russian military apparatus is.

Crazy what Ukraine appears to be pulling off these last three days. Strykers and entire brigades uno reverse card lol. Just strolling through Russia taking out columns of Russian vehicles is crazy to me.

I despise Putin and wish to see the Russians lose this war, but I fear this will not go well for the Ukrainian forces over time. Russia has the manpower, military equipment, and everything they need to route those approximate 100k strong troops. It may be weeks, but the Russians have been embarrassed & their retribution will be terrible. I hope I’m wrong and that the Ukrainian counter offensive is a long term success.

It certainly gives them leverage at the negotiation table.

Russia is a dying giant. Their population is expected to be halved within the next 70 years. Their economy is getting worse and worse. Ukraine is definitely not looking for permanent gains here. It is an active defense move.

Hope you are right and Ukraine can bring a swift end to this war with favorable peace terms. I’m skeptical. We’ll see.

They are going to be a lot more favorable than one would have expected. I don't think "swift" is going to happen though.

    They basically need Putin overthrown.

Ukraine quickly exposed itself as a dictatorship after the war began... not to mention the corruption on display. No free and fair elections, conscription of all military age males, they've taken in many more billions than their entire GDP in foreign aid yet still want more aid and support. Yeah, I'm not sure I have a dog in this fight any more.

Absolutely agree that being on the attack and gaining territory would put them in a more favorable position to negotiate better peace terms.

I’m not a military tactics expert or anything, but as a student of history I understand there when an army goes on the offensive into enemy territory they risk being cut off from the necessary supply chain to sustain such a force. The longer this goes on and the further Ukrainian forces get, the greater the risk becomes of Russia responding with overwhelming force and encirclement. It’s possible this looks like a great win for Ukraine in the short term, but if those forces get overrun it won’t be. That’s all I’m saying.

It’s unlikely Putin will be overthrown. He has solidified power and has all the support he needs. For that to change, life for the rich people that matter in Moscow and other big cities would need to become uncomfortable. Ukraine is in a state of total war, but for Russia it’s been largely business as usual for the Russian people that are not illiterate conscripted rural peasants. Ukraine doesn’t have the military strength to make that happen in my humble opinion.
