Trump today claimed that the crowd at his J6 speech was bigger than the crowd at MLK's 1963 "I have a dream" speech. Trump says the speeches were held at the same place. That is false, as everybody should know. Trump held his speech at the Ellipse just south of the White House facing south toward the Washington Monument. MLK held his speech at the Lincoln Memorial facing east toward the Washington Monument. Photos from 1963 show a crowd packed into a much larger area than the loosely assembled crowd in a smaller area at Trump's speech.
The important question is why Trump feels the need to exaggerate in this way, when any objective observer can see that he is lying. What possible explanation can there be?
Trump began his presidency by lying about he size of his inauguration crowd. We've come full circle. I'm not sure if it's sad or funny or scary. Let's go with funny.
