Meanwhile, Shell is reporting an extra $1 billion in profits from refining margins which are at record levels. Congressional Republicans immediately called for Biden to do more to make it easier for them to exploit the American people for higher profits.
Except your information is trash. On the best of times a gas station might make 15 cents on the gallon, at the worst of times, like during a gas spike, they might make 5 cents a gallon or even less.
Let's assume they get refilled once a week, although, depending on where they are and the business they get it could be up to 3 weeks, but let's go with 1 week. Even at a 15 cent profit, they are only pulling in 6 grand a week from gas. Then they have to pay underground storage fees, hazardous storage fees, and whatever other kind of fees their local government might have on them.
Considering 2 employees on working 12 hours at $15 an hour 7 days a week, there is half of that gas profit gone in wages. Paying someone to be a manager? Other half is gone, but you can probably do that yourself as the store owner. So you got 3 grand a week, probably paying around 7500 a month for the lease. So, as the OWNER, you are taking home 1875 a week prior to taxes. This is when you have a fairly decent profit margin on gas sales. When you're forced to drop it to 5 cents, which you'll need to do when prices rise to stay competitive, as the owner, you aren't making anything, even if you fire a worker.
Gas stations NEED their inside sales. Gas only exists as a way to get people to stop at the store. They can't simply "lower the prices".

No one said they don't need or enjoy massive profits from inside sales, you're playing devil's advocate with that piece of information and are now trying to argue with yourself, because you're the only one who apparently disagrees they have larger profit margin. Furthermore, "fees" levied by state, county and federal jurisdictions are added to the price of fuel and passed on to cover those costs. Lastly, you think gas station clerks are making $15 an hour? You're drunk. The article I posted cited daily or sometimes multiple times today, if you want to argue about their methodology, feel free to email them why you think Bobby Joe's Jesus Shack, Fuel and Bait Bucket in Podunk WY needs to factor in so heavily with their numbers.
I'm not talking about gas taxes. Gas taxes are added. Storage fees, hazard materials fees, etc are NOT put into the price per gallon at the pump.
California is $15 an hour. A lto of states have legislation out now upping minimum wage to $15. Hasn't that always been your sides talking point though? Get all wages to at least $15?
Or are you agreeing that $15/hr min wage it isn't feasible now?

Hey, Seran, oil is up 5.5% so far today, at 104 dollars a barrel. Remember just yesterday when you told us all that Biden saved us from high prices? I suppose now Biden once again has no control over the price of gas and the oil companies are to blame?
