The Russian cruiser Moskva had a massive fire in the Black Sea. This is the famous ship that Ukrainians told to go fuck itself. Ukraine claims to have hit it with two Neptune anti-ship missiles, Russia claims it was an ammunition fire sparked by unknown causes,, but that it wasn't Ukraine's doing.

The ship wasn't sunk and is sailing under power out of theater. No info on casualties.

Those missiles have a range over two hundred miles, I'm kind of surprised they've not used them for a counter offensive.

Just under, but they've only ever successfully hit stuff at about 100 miles.

Was an epic strike. I wonder if Ukraine would get more leverage if they went on a counter offensive against positions in Dontesk. Or went after Crimea. At this point they've well and truly been filled with Russian settlers and personnel, Ukraine must be feeling the urge to strike back hard.

They aren't really in the position to go offensive. They are losing Mariupol. The won at Kiev, but Russia still has a lot of forces regrouped in the East.

Russia came out and stated themselves that it was sunk during towing in heavy seas. How embarrassing to lose a flag ship against a country who doesn't even really have a navy.

Those Neptune missiles weren't even suppose to be operational until end of June. They've clearly increased their production in the western part of the country

Ah, have they admitted to it sinking now? There were reports going back and forth saying it had or it hadn't.

There's nothing really left of Mariupol, which is why focusing further west in Crimea would be such a good idea. Mariupol was too close to Russia. I don't doubt that you're right and that they aren't in a position to go in offensive, there defensive tactics really have no hope of preventing the entire southeast part of Ukraine from being annexed if they don't go on an offensive.

There isn't anything for them to fight further west. The Russians are focusing on the East.

Crimea is west of Mariupol. While Russia is securing that obliterated port, Ukraine should throw everything they have at retaking Crimea. They sank the flagship belonging to the Russians which could threaten Odessa or Crimea, so they're in a better position to not have to face sea based cruise missiles.

As a matter of fact, Ukraine takes Crimea, gives up the eastern provinces, then we institute a protective cordon around Crimea, western Ukraine and start landing peacekeepers.
