Way to move the goalposts there. My response still stands, a minority of SENATORS should not be able to derail an entire agenda. Filibuster rules are nonsensical, are not supported in any way by the Constitution and hold back legitimate progress.
Whether it's Republicans or Democrats in control in a non-filibuster world, their passage of unpalatable legislation is controllable by elections and the next Congress is free to overturn said legislation.
The concept for requiring 60% approval of something, instead of 51/49% is so that our elected representatives must COMPROMISE on legislation, to ensure that a simple majority doesn't just steamroll it's citizentry.
Why we've allowed our elected representatives to pervert and twist this concept, instead of holding them accountable to properly compromise and create GOOD legislation is beyond me. The idea that "our side is right, therefor it should be" is a bad concept when conceptualized in anything where only a "simple majority" is needed to enforce laws upon the populous.
If all elected representatives voted as their constituency in their district wanted.. instead of the party line.. and were noble, trustworthy, and resolute in REPRESENTING their CONSTIUENTS - then, in this imaginary world, would a "simple majority" work.
To think otherwise, is to not understand human nature or the structure of politics.

And just where is the nobility and trust when Senators are threatened by special interests, party leaders and former president's that failure to vote party will result in an aggressive primary challenge? Where precisely in the Constitution do you see where soft money and Super PACs were decided to decide our elected officials and leaders?
In the electronic age, money = visibility = power. A candidate's beliefs are irrelevant, their voting records overlooked. You cannot argue that a super majority forces compromise when legislation with the power to completely bankrupt our nation can be passed with a simple 51 vote margin via reconciliation, yet needing to repeal said mistakes require sixty to even make it to the floor for debate. Some of the most heated bills of the last two decades, ie Affordable Care Act and Trump's Regressive Tax Bonanza were passed by simple majorities. Now Republicans may see a $3.5 Trillion dollar schelacking if Manchin is given enough pork.
Don't come at me with compromise when the worst of American society has been revealed as party over country on both sides.
You just made my point for me. Neither you, nor I, should want our representatives with the power of a "simple majority" - because of all the reasons you just stated.
Requiring at least 60% of them to agree on something blunts, doesn't fully stop, but blunts the affects/influences you describe.
I don't care if you're red, blue, in-between, or off the rails.. a "simple majority" is bad for ALL of us.

Yea.. only those mean old Trump loving, bible thumping, gun toting rednecks are anti-vax! Reminds me of J. Aniston cutting herself off from her friends who are anti-vax, cause you know they're a bunch of Red leaning folks. LOL.
Fucking media is cancer in the States right now. Turning everyone against everyone, and we just let it happen.
