The DA is charging the cop who shot Rayshard Brooks (the guy who punched officers in the face, stole their weapons, then used the stolen weapons on the officers) with murder, saying Brooks "never presented himself as a threat."

The fuck? Just so we are all clear now:

Driving drunk
Physically resisting arrest
Punching officers in the face
Stealing their weapons
Running from police with said stolen weapons
Using said stolen weapons on police

Is no longer considered a "threat." We're about to see a whole shitload of police quit and other people never get into policing to begin with. Why the fuck would they? Their only options now in the face of an ACTUAL DANGEROUS PERSON who is PHYSICALLY ATTACKING THEM AND USING WEAPONS ON THEM is to either sit back and take it and hope they survive, or use lethal force and possibly face life in prison.

Then the cop will get acquitted, the media will act like this is exactly the same as George Floyd's murder except the cop gets away with it, then idiots will use that as an excuse to riot some more.

Appears this may be the second man this particular officer shot in the back. Going to need more proof of that than the few articles trickling in.

I'm torn on it. Dude put himself in the position by resisting arrest, being aggressive, and stealing a taser and then turned around and tried to shoot the cop with the taser.

He was already patted down, so by the time he's running away - officers no longer can say they feared for their lives. If they'd shot him on the ground during the struggle it could be reasonable to argue he was going for a gun. Instead - he got what the police classified as a non deadly weapon, meaning legally the officer is fucked.

Correct - the in court argument will be there was no risk to life and thus not a justified killing. He was shot in the back. Hard to be an agressor when your back is turned.

Was the officers life in danger when he shot? No. Was it earlier in the confrontation? Absolutely

It's easy to turn and fire a weapon, which is exactly what he was doing. This isn't even obscured on video, it's clear as day that's what he was doing.

I think the last thing we need to be doing is telling criminals that as long as they turn to fire at cops they are in the clear and can't be shot.

You're right. It's under the same classification as a baton or mace. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Georgia police are allowed to use deadly force under certain circumstances.

"He or she reasonably believes that the suspect possesses a deadly weapon or any object, device, or instrument which, when used offensively against a person, is likely to or actually does result in serious bodily injury and when he or she reasonably believes that the suspect poses an immediate threat of serious bodily injury to the officer or others."

They knew he didn't have a gun. At the point of shooting he was already running away so there's no immediate threat, etc.
