He did. But those aren't the people who voted for him. The people who voted for him were non college educated white voters making more than $50k a year and suburban white voters making even more.

The ones who were really poor and struggling broke for Clinton.

So it's more accurate to say that the people who voted for Trump were the ones who were most moved by the narrative of the struggling working class white voter, rather than those voters themselves. ie people who were feeling white racial anxiety who felt like they had less to lose from Republican policy priorities like ending the ACA, tax breaks focused on the wealthy, rolling back finding for schools and social safety net programs, etc
