Thread: Thread for Things That Made You Frown Today

  1. Default

Yesterday we figured out how someone managed to start having their car payments made from our checking account, when someone sent us an email to let us know we hadn't paid for something. We had paid, and the check was cashed in July... turns out it was cashed by someone else, who then set up the car payments with the account information on the stolen check.

The car payments were refunded because we caught them quickly. In the case of the check, we may be out $1120 because we didn't notice the fraud till November. We'll see, but frustrating to have to take off half a day of work (twice) to deal with this crap.
I don't use Lich. If you want to do business with me, contact me via PM, IG, or on AIM. Or maybe use smoke signals. Don't like it, get off of my lawn.

I heard from an anonymous source that Estild did it because he got mad that you're not spending enough (if anything) in the P2W shop.

Can’t this person be arrested since it should be pretty easy to track them down if they were paying their car payments with your bank information?

You'd think it would be that easy. The organization we wrote the check to shares space with the person of the name written over the top on the check, and on the car loan. Both parties claim to have had things stolen from the office, with the person who's name is being used claiming it's a case of stolen identity. I still think that should be pretty easy to check out. I'm hopeful that with the new information and a cop who seems willing to spend some time on it, we'll get to the bottom of the case <insert Law and Order sound here>

So the person who's name was used to cash your check is also the same name on the car loan? They are claiming someone stole their name to cash your check + buy a car and use your checking account to pay for the car?

Curiously, how many months of car payments did they make before you noticed?

All correct. Noticed the withdrawal on the very first statement, which meant 2 withdrawals.

98% chance that person is guilty, IMO.

Sounds like something a bad relative would do.

Good luck and hope you get your money back.

I think they are too, but who knows? The irony of discovering this check didn't get cashed by the right people is that suddenly 2 crimes are connected, and there's a whole lot more evidence. If they did it, it should be obvious to the cops if they chase down the evidence.

In a strange twist, the cop on our case busted a huge under age prostitution ring a few years back that was all over the national news, and then got caught in a lie and most of the people involved went free, so the cop ends up busted down to doing stuff like check fraud. They seemed to be doing the work when I talked to them, when most of the time stuff like this never gets solved.
