It's really no different than what the Republican party went through with the tea party faction.

Couple of differences. Tea Party wasn't nearly as far right as this new left is far left.
Also the main Republican party didn't really embrace the Tea Party, it was indeed a faction of the Republicans, whereas the Democrats are quickly embracing far left ideals and some Democrats just refuse to call out this shit because they would rather have a far left insane Democrat in office than risk a moderate or slightly right of center Republican winning.
