I forget what Superman movie it was but there's a scene where Lex just straight up prison shanks Supes in the kidney. Shit became hardcore for a second.

Superman Returns is literally the only Superman movie I've watched. I know the internet's opinion on which ones are good and which are shitty, but which ones are actually worth watching? I considered watching the new (est?) one because I like Kevin Costner, but the internet had a shit fit about that one too so I didn't bother. I also nearly watched 3 because why wouldn't you watch a movie with Richard Pryor in it, but the internet and world at large also seemed to have a shit fit about that. I dunno why, but I never could really get behind Batman or Superman stuff. The nolan movies were great, but the rest have been resoundingly meh.
It's hard to enjoy a movie about a man with limitless powers and zero weaknesses, isn't it? I mean, I get it. He was one of, or the first modern superhero. They hadn't really perfected the formula yet. But I mean..even Heracles was kind of a douchebag. Your story doesn't get thousands of years of staying power without a character arc or something to overcome. Superman's deal is like...he's immune to everything and can do all the things. There's never any danger of him failing.
Superman I is great.
Superman II is great, and General Zod is the shit.
Superman III is ok if you don't take it too seriously. Drunk Superman is the most underrated character ever and needs his own movie. Which is actually kind of happening with that BrightBurn movie despite not being an official Superman movie. Superman III was also an inspiration for Office Space.
Superman IV is pure garbage and should be avoided at all costs other than to experience 93 minutes of cringe.
Superman Returns is newer pure garbage.
Man of Steel was good. Not perfect but still good.
Batman v Superman was good too, other than the Doomsday's identify twist which was stupid as fuck and shits all over the actual Doomsday character from the comics.
I also fell asleep for like the last 2/3 of the movie because I was tired as fuck and never went back to finish it, but I still remember liking the movie.
There will never be another Lex Luthor as good as Gene Hackman, and there will never be Clark Kent as good as Christopher Reeve's.
And Otis. Otis is my hero.

Never thought about it like that. That's worth giving it a look. And thanks Methais, for the breakdown. It's probably worth giving them a chance this weekend. I'm always wary of older movies that I never saw when I was younger because a good 50% of them just don't hold up without nostalgia to power you through the cheesy bits. I can't even watch Krull or Willow now and I did have nostalgia propping those up. You watch Alien or Aliens for the first time though in 2019 and they're still fucking amazing.
