The White House is trying to argue that the nickname "Pocahontas" is "not a racial slur" against Native Americans after President Donald Trump used it Monday as an insult during a ceremony honoring the Navajo code talkers.


Native Americans do not agree.


"Pocahontas is used a racial slur in the United States all the time," Andrew Curley, a postdoctoral fellow in geography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a citizen of the Navajo Nation, told Newsweek


"I grew up with these kinds of remarks. It's not the name itself but the way it's used. Trump is using it to attack Senator [Elizabeth] Warren and belittle Native Americans at the same time. I take it as a personal insult."

Pocahontas is a well-known historical figure who bridged her own Pamunkey Tribe in present-day Virginia with the British in the 1600s. But the National Congress of American Indians says Trump wrongly has flipped the name into a derogatory term, and the comment drew swift criticism from American Indians and politicians.

The Navajo Nation suggested Trump's remark Monday was an example of "cultural insensitivity" and resolved to stay out of the "ongoing feud between the senator and President Trump."


"All tribal nations still battle insensitive references to our people. The prejudice that Native American people face is an unfortunate historical legacy," Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye said in a statement.

I think it's worse when you pretend to be of Native American decent for the sole purpose of self promotion.

I know, I know.... Elizabeth Warren feels like she's part Native American.. so therefore we should just let her.

But her grandmother has a picture of her grandfather on the mantle and commented on his high cheek bones. If that's not enough proof that she's Native American then I don't know what is.

After a bunch of pasty faced white Democrats in the media framed the story as "Trump uses RACIST SLUR!" instead of "Elizabeth Warren STILL a racist bitch for pretending to be a Native American, and Trump pokes fun at her" then the butt hurt Native American Democrats jumped on the butt hurt train. Yes.

Democrats are their own worst enemy when it comes to Trump. Rather than just being truthful in the reporting they have to go overboard. Even if they wanted to shield their only Native American senator (LOL) from any criticism they could have focused on how perhaps during that ceremony wasn't the best place to make fun of a sitting senator. Nope! Not good enough! Let's make this racial! TRUMP is the racist one for daring to call attention to the racist sitting senator who used a minority's culture in order to further her career.

I'd probably give more of a shit about Trump's shenanigans if the media were at least half way honest. If Trump was really even 1/1000th as bad as the media portrays him he would probably be sitting on a 9% approval rating and the Republican party would have been run out of town already. But Republicans see through this bullshit and they are sick of it. Just like they are sick of the narrative that Roy Moore HAS to drop out but John Conyers, who has already paid off at least one woman, well he's an icon. He gets a pass.
