No, these fuckers were walking up the street saying they own the street. Some of them were on the side walk and yeah they went around cars because they can't go through them. They were a little different in that they were walking up the street, rather then setting up a blockade though. Their intentions probably weren't necessarily to block the street, there was just so many of them that it happened. Do I think they deserved to be hit by a car? No. That isn't the answer. I think they should have been met with riot police and dispersed.

Short of calling in SWAT/National Guard I don't think police were capable of doing any dispersing that day.

They should have called in SWAT, they are still cops. National Guard would have taken too long to mobilize, but the Governor has access to a pretty robust State Police that he could have called up to go too.

SWAT definitely should be. State Police? Most likely. It is taught in most police academies.

Scott Stadium is a 61,500 seat Stadium. Charlottesville as a city, and it's police, are accustomed to dealing with crowds many times larger than this moving through the streets on a regular basis.

Which I'd say is why the other cars just stopped and waited for them to pass like I'd hope any normal person would do.
