Good to know it was a fake blaster. Not that a stormtrooper could actually hit anyone with one.

Watched the first season of Foyle's War and liked it very much so I ordered the second season from Amazon. The box arrived and the dvds were still in their factory sealed dvd case but, when I broke the seal and opened the box, there were no dvd's in the box. It was a completely empty box.
This might actually belong in the "Smile" thread since my expression, when I opened the box, induced smiles from my family.
We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men. Edward R. Murrow
Sunburned and sore as shit. Riding a jetski beats the hell out of you.

Being an old gheezer and all that, I have a large VHS collection. Today for the first time in maybe 5 years I pulled out a VHS tape and tried to watch it. It didn't work - the tape wouldn't turn well, and eventually the tape got stuck in the player.
Thinking that perhaps that was a fluke, I tried another VHS tape. Same result. Third tape, ditto. Fourth tape...well you get the idea.
I had a basic VHS player given as a gift in 2002 which I never opened, so I cracked open the box and set it up. Three more ruined tapes later, I determined that the problem was not the player, but the tapes.
It seems that the tapes are just plain disintegrating. Makes sense given the materials, but I never thought of it before. I did some research and found out that VHS tapes generally last for 12-15 years (there is some variance on these figures, but I live in a humid area which makes higher estimates unreliable). My newest VHS tapes appear to be from around 2002, so I guess it's time.
So it appears it's time to dump my VHS collection (300 or so tapes...mutter). I'll just have to stick with those newfangled DVDs.
