I'd deal with the utility company directly, and tell the collection agency you're doing so. There's zero reason for a collection agency to help you resolve anything.

You can, but the utility company might not even have you in their systems anymore if they sold the debt. You can, of course, Get past bills to use to dispute the debt.

How old the bill is now the gas company most likely sold the debt and has nothing to do with it anymore.

They're sending me the full payment records by mail then I'm going to compare to my papers from that time(hopefully, if I can fucking find them...) and hopefully figure it out. :|

O_O I just got a $150 bill for gas from a collections agency... from over two years ago.

What.

I don't understand how I have an outstanding bill from that long ago without any prior attempts at contacting me via phone or mail. I had so much fucking trouble with that apartment, the gas company thought the entire first floor was my apartment and was charging me way more than I should have been charged for months, then I settled all of that, settled with my landlord and moved out... now over two years later I'm getting a bill?

I called the company... they said it was like 5 missed payments between 20-60 dollars.

I don't understand. How on earth would I miss five months of payments with absolutely no recollection of this? Going to root through all my financial paperwork and be like BITCHES THIS ISNT MY FAULT.

Debts don't have a time limit in the good ol' US of A.

Why they waited 2 years I dunno. It's probably like Gelston said though; they sold your debt and the new owner of the debt is just now getting around to wanting to get paid.

Why the gas company didn't contact you earlier is odd though. Maybe they did and all of that marijuana you smoke made you suffer from some memory loss.
