And I am pissed at myself for buying a six year old game and thinking it would work under Windows7 because the box had a Windows icon on it.

That sucks, but the box also had the EA logo on it which should have tipped you off. EA generally stops supporting a game a year or so after launch. I see a few workarounds that people claim to have worked, did you try any?

I loved that game when it came out, but it definitely fell well short of its potential.
