Perhaps not scientific but definitely brings into question the sincerity of their motivation.

You would think if hippies really loved the Earth as much as they say they do they would want humans to keep pumping out pollution so we kill ourselves off faster.

After all don't scientists agree that even though humanity might be wiped out the Earth will continue on just fine? Maybe the next species that evolves will be kinder to the Earth from the get go; like star fish, they seem pretty environmentally friendly.

We won't know though unless you give humans the chance to make themselves extinct.

Why is the right running from this topic so fast now? It used to just be a science issue. An issue about measuring and observation to learn how we should respond. Now it's tied up in an almost faith based anti-intellectualism that humans don't cause it, it will happen anyway, I'll be dead before it's too bad and we can't stop it so why try and CHINA! It's like having a conversation with Sybil.

Is the conservative movement so full of sheep that they will lead wherever their shepherd points, even if it's off a cliff. Is there no care at all for attempting to make improvements or to leave the land better for our children and their grandchildren?

What happened to conservative leaders like this. Ultimately my questions for conservatives (at least today's mutant version) is this: What the fuck are you so afraid of? Are you so scared that you won't even try?

Uh, what's this "it used to be just a science issue" bullshit? Saying humans aren't having a great impact on the climate and saying why gimp ourselves when nations like China and India will keep polluting anyways has been the standard go to response for decades now. Isn't that why Bush didn't sign the Kyoto Protocol? Because "BUT CHINA!" In the meantime we'll just increase costs for everyday ordinary citizens while China keeps getting a leg up on us in the world. Brilliant!

The funny thing about science is that it's true:
1) regardless of who's saying it and whether or not they're a hypocrite OR a cynical politician simply looking to free ride off a position popular with their base
2) regardless of whether or not you choose to recognize it

Likewise, the statements "1+1=2" or "the sun has risen every day for the past five years" or "the climate is on an undeniably upward trend, as are CO2 concentrations in our atmosphere" are true whether or not they're said by Neil Armstrong, Joseph Stalin or Ayn Rand.

Impugning the global, essentially universal consensus of the scientific community, implying there's a worldwide conspiracy of "greedy scientists" out to wreck the global economy so--what, their green energy companies can be temporarily subsidized until they replace current industries?--is what we call a conspiracy theory.

The evidence for anthropogenic climate change is beyond question--the right's denial of science has ranged variously from "global warming is a hoax!1!shift+1!" to "It snowed this winter! So much for global warming!" or "Is global warming really such a bad thing? I sure want these cold winters to end!" In 2008, McCain and even Palin recognized it. Since the Tea Party entered the picture, the right has been tripping over itself, right off an unscientific cliff.

Hey I'm all for alternative forms of energy; but I also realize with the power needs of this country it's not something that is going to happen overnight and trying to force energy companies to stop burning coal prematurely seems counter productive.
