Needless to say I have a fondness for sitar.

Hippy parents? That's completely awesome. My childhood music was southern rock like ccr and skynyrd. Still gives me warm fuzzies. Shit my daughter listens to too much pop music. I need to remember to mix it up with her or she's going to be comforting herself with lady gaga at age 40.

I think of them as beatnik. When I was a baby, like 2 and younger, thats what they played to put me to sleep. I know ccr, Skynard, Captain and Tinielle, and the Osmands.
