Turkey: PM Vows To 'Choke' Financial Speculators
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan vowed June 9 to "choke" financial market speculators who he said were growing rich off "the sweat of the people," Reuters reported. Erdogan urged Turkish citizens to put their money in state not private banks. Speaking at a series of rallies in Ankara after a week of the fiercest anti-government demonstrations in years, Erdogan blamed a "high-interest-rate lobby" for causing volatility in financial markets and vowed to stop them. In the lead-up to 2023, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the modern Turkish republic, the government wants to bring worldwide attention to Turkey as a significant emerging market.

Fortunately, this will derail his ambitions to get the Turkish Constitution amended so that 'power' is held by the Presidential office, which he was planning to assume, after his term limits as PM is reached (think Putin).
