It could be worse. They could have been thrown away alive, terrified, possibly injured and in pain, and left to slowly suffocate and/or starve. Obviously there are far better options (like doing what normal people do and bringing them to a shelter), but at least a bullet is quick.

My primary goal in regard to my family (excepting my immediate family of wife and child) is to be far the fuck away from it. I think if your experience was similar to mine, you would believe what I believe- that is, a person makes their own family, and blood counts for little and less compared to shared values and shared experience. My obligation to my parents extends to me making sure they always have shelter and are physically cared for. I am under no obligation to suffer their bullshit with a smile.
