Losing someone you are completely in love with to their pill addiction.. I think if she had actually died it would have been easier than having her push me away to see her slowly kill herself... There was no thread for things that made me angry frustrated and completely ripped apart inside.. she had been clean and doing well for 2 years before she met me and started to give it all up last week. I've never dealt with a living loss like this.

A year or two or ten or twenty, addicts always relapse. I'm sorry for your troubles. It's important to be willing to help those that you love, but when it comes to addicts... well, it's equally important to protect yourself. It's a fine line to walk, and it totally sucks.

My sister was my best friend until several years ago when she moved in with me to kick heroin. It started off as a blast. I took care of her through her withdrawal symptoms; we partied all the time and were in a couple of bands together; we made each other laugh even at the worst of times. Then she started to relapse, she got all lame, our relationship turned into a painful series of lies and avoidances, and then she finally skipped town with her fucked-up, weird-as-shit, enabling boyfriend.

She's doing much better now; we're on friendly terms, and chat occasionally, but it kills me that I will never have my fucking awesome sister back the way she was before.

I'm so sorry, man. I wish I could give you some hopeful advice. You just have to wish for the best and be happy for her if she starts to get better, whether things ever get back to how they were before or not. If it helps to rage against the world at someone, feel free to send me some PMs; I'll understand.

Sorry to hear that man, that really does suck. In 2007 I lost my best friend at the time to this. Tried helping her as best as I could but ultimately that did nothing as she ended up wrecking while driving and now she's paralyzed.
