There are so many things wrong with that story but the last paragraph is especially baffling:

The News-Leader reported Wednesday that local prosecutors found out about the lawsuit Monday night and were reviewing police reports to see if the school district violated any laws requiring abuse allegations to be reported to authorities.

Really? It isn't a requirement of every school in the US that when a law has been potentially broken on school grounds the school has to notify the authorities? Does that mean the school took it upon themselves to deem whether or not the girl was lying without getting the cops involved at all? Did the mother go to the police? This is all so confusing and wrong.
