That's the problem with America today. Perhaps one of the single biggest issues with parenting. Childhood entitlement and lack of physical punishment as an option along with the litigious society we've become, as a start any way.

I'm not a parent so I won't pretend to have some knowledge on this subject but I hear this a lot these days, it's 'wrong' to spank a child that is misbehaving but I never hear anyone give any alternatives. So what do parents do when a two year old is behaving and yelling isn't working (which I hear from some people that it is wrong to yell at kids too) and you can't spank them? They aren't really old enough to threaten to take away their video games or anything of that sort.

Depends on the child. My boys stand in the corner at parade rest, spankings are rare but they are an option and my boys know it.

The biggest punishment my boys can get is "a talk" I take them to the garage, sit them down on a folding chair, I sit down on a folding chair and I face to face with them about 5 inches away. Then I just tell them to talk to me and I stare at them. They tell me why they are in trouble, what they should have done, and what they think their punishment should be, I just stare. It's pretty much awesome.

Okay, that sounds interesting. Glad it works for you. It's certainly a method that has merits.

I think that's kind of awesome, but it makes me laugh to realize that with a lot of kids that would NOT work. My sister-in-law's three year old boy is a hellion. He screams, he yells, he does NOT listen. If my sister tells him not to scream, he'll get up and scream right IN HER FACE. It's pretty amazing to see, and I don't know where the bad behavior comes from because they've never been a house to let kids get away with shit. My mother-in-law lives there too, and both she and my sister are all about spanking if it's warranted.

Justin tells me stories about how when he was a kid and was bad, he'd have to go into the backyard and pick his own switch to get spanked with. He once made the mistake of picking the smallest he could find. Once. lol

Your kids sound well behaved though. I'm not trying to be a smart ass but I just can't see the talk working with my niece and nephew when they were that age. If their dad sat them down and stared in their face they would probably just laugh, stand up and start misbehaving again. Their parents also tried the standing in a corner bit but if they even listened and stood in the corner (that's a big if right there) they would stand there for maybe 10 seconds and just go right back to what they were doing.

Then again maybe my niece and nephew are bad examples, nothing worked on those two. In fact nothing still works on them and they are teenagers now.

    Fear, respect and love.

If you make a threat, always go through with it, and make it unpleasant as much as it pains you.

This sounds cold hearted but, kids know how far they can push and will push right up until they think they are getting in trouble. Just don't bend, whatsoever.

I never got spankings from my Father. He absolutely terrified me. He never yelled, but he was very stern. The fear of not knowing what he would do was the best deterant.

On the other hand, my mother spanked the shit out of me (they were divorced). I would misbehave and push the limit every time, because I knew she threatened punishment in exasperation and usually if I would act good for a moment, her anger would subside (sometimes I went over the limit and got the belt, though.), and I could start the whole process anew.

    Mileage may vary, I suppose.

Blame the parents, not the kids. No follow thru is a great way to make a brat or shit bird out of your kid.
