    Default Boston Apartments

My brother took a job in boston - he's looking for apartments - going to be flying up there to check out a few on Sunday/Monday.

Figured since I know a bunch of you peeps live in Boston, any tips would be great.

    a) Job currently at Harvard, but will prob move to Boston College - so he's looking for something close to the T line - or as close to work as possible.

    b) Affordability without being shot

Preferrably within the 1000/month range, as he's basically making no money.

Email responses would be best, as I can forward them along - I'm on vacation in Atlanta and wont be checking this thread much. -

Have him check out Somerville or Medford.

If he's gonna be working at BC, Allston/Brighton is your best bet. The B Line of the Green Line, while notoriously slow, is right on Comm Ave and pretty convenient.

He'll have a lot of luck right now -- lots of kids just went home, and there are a shit-ton of places on craigslist. Depending on where he's moving from, he might be pretty surprised at how little $1000 gets, though. Searching roomates-wanted might be a better idea, and he can save a little extra cash while he scopes out where he really wants to live.

Fun aside: I have a friend who lives literally next to Fenway (on Boylston) in some student-type housing. Two bedrooms, a closet-sized bathroom and closet-sized kitchen, no living room or other 'shared' space. $1600 for about 400-500sq feet. And trust me, living next to Fenway is not a premium.

Years ago, in between leases, I sublet for a month in one of these places. It was even worse than you make it sound.

Someone e-mail him and tell him that Allston/Brighton is really the best option, and then remind him that Allston/Brighton is the shittiest area ever because it's just fucking full of hipster recent college grads and it fucking sucks.

PS. Don't live in Boston at all and enjoy life that much more.

I just put my condo on Craigslist. It's in natick but sounds like its out of his price range. It's right on the commuter rail.

I can second this. I lived in Medford for a couple of years and we found several places in the $1000/month range. This was aout 5-6 years ago, so prices could have gone up.

If you look hard enough you can find a nice place in that area. With a couple roommates you could probably find a spacious 3 BDR for about $2000/month.

The little red arrow is telling me that you live in the blue water. Mr. Mingrone is a Merman?
