I think it might have been because of the skid marks on the road.

Musk is trying to make Teslas safer by changing the accounting rules. It's like reducing COVID infections by doing fewer tests.
Last week, the US Department of Transportation announced a major change to the Biden-era rule that requires automakers and tech companies to report crashes that involve fully or partially autonomous vehicles. Under the revised rules, companies will no longer have to report certain crashes, such as those involving a vehicle equipped with a Level 2 advanced driver assist system (ADAS) that resulted in a tow-away, but no injuries, fatalities, or airbag deployments. The change was meant to, in Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's words, "slash red tape and move us closer to a single national standard that spurs innovation and prioritizes safety."
One company that stands to benefit from the rule change is Tesla. Under the previous regime, Elon Musk's company comprised the bulk of crashes reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) involving vehicles with Level 2 automated systems. But under the revised rule, Tesla's load will be significantly lighter.

From a recently filed lawsuit against Tesla..
Why would Tesla measure miles this way instead of using tire rotations?62. Notwithstanding this sophisticated and technical ability to measure distances traveled precisely, Plaintiff alleges that Defendants misrepresent and manipulate the mileage driven by Tesla Vehicles by way of an odometer system (“Tesla’s Odometer System”) that unlike traditional vehicles, utilizes a miles-to-electrical energy conversion factor that relies on predictive algorithms, energy consumption metrics, and driver behavior multipliers to determine mileage traveled.
63. Specifically, Tesla Odometer System are integrally linked to Tesla Vehicles’ energy consumption metrics and range estimation algorithms, as evidenced by Tesla Inc.’s patents and internal methodology detailed in Patent US8054038B2. This patent confirms that Tesla Odometer System readings are not direct measurements of distance traveled, but are instead derived from energy consumption data, driving behavior patterns, and predictive algorithms. The patent explicitly describes a “miles-to-electrical energy conversion factor” that varies dynamically based on road and traffic conditions.

While everyone was scrambling to start the holiday, something important in Hillsboro revealed two interesting and concerning things. One, Data Centers have batteries that can burn and be very toxic. They are also nearly impossible to put out. This adds another negative checkmark to the Data Center +/- chart. Number two, good old Elon Musk ’s servers are humming away here in Hillsboro. The Herald has learned that Musk and X are discussing making it a requirement/priority to put Tesla Lithium-Ion batteries in the servers at Data Centers they contract with. Have you ever seen a Tesla burn? Think that, but scaled up by 1,000 percent.
A Thursday morning blaze at a Hillsboro Technology Park data center – an industrial campus near Portland – left firefighters battling a room of burning batteries for five hours, prompting alarm in the tech industry and the local community. Hillsboro Fire Department Battalion Chief Piseth Pich of Hillsboro Fire & Rescue told local media that firefighters arriving at 10:20 a.m. found “batteries on fire that were contained to one room. The smoke was so thick that they could hardly see.”
More...I did not know data centers have batteries in them. And I certainly did not know that have dangerous Tesla batteries. Now we have to worry about Battery fires? Wow. Experts warn that lithium-ion battery blazes can release a cocktail of toxic emissions far more dangerous than ordinary fires. Data center firefighting specialists note that, unlike a building fire, a battery conflagration can self-intensify and reignite, releasing superheated smoke and toxic gases. Tests of burning Li-ion cells have found they emit hydrogen fluoride and other acidic fluorine gases in prodigious quantities. These gases can scar lungs, burn skin, and even etch glass. Worse, soot and heavy metal particulates from battery fires can drift for miles; scientists have found contamination of cobalt, nickel, manganese, and other toxic metals around large battery storage sites.
The impact of this blaze on local health is still uncertain. Although the smoke was mostly contained inside the building, some fumes inevitably leaked out while crews cooled the batteries. Emergency officials urged anyone in the immediate area to stay indoors with windows shut and air filters running. Following the Moss Landing battery fire in California, environmental tests found metals in nearby soil at “100 to 1,000 times higher than normal,” and residents reported skin, eye, and respiratory issues. In Oregon, no such tests or disclosures have yet been made.
Houses have always been fireproof, take my word for it.
The Tesla tragedy shown below happened in Florida after a hurricane. If you live in a cold climate where they put salt on roads and brides in the winter, you'll want to avoid driving a Tesla through any puddles that might contain salt. Otherwise..
SARASOTA, Fla. (CNN) - A Florida family lost their home to a fire when their Tesla burst into flames during Hurricane Helene.
Morgan Hodges says the family’s Tesla Model X Plaid was parked in the garage during the storm Friday in Sarasota. The family shared a Nest video showing the moment the car burst into flames.
