They'd definitely need training. And responding to an active shooter is way different then just shooting on a range. The noise, screaming, blood and bodies, smoke, your own adrenaline up.

I’ve taken a few pistol & carbine training classes, but I’ve always wanted to do a force on force training exercise with simunition rounds. Simunition rounds hurt like a mofo and it would need to be in administered controlled safe environment. It’s still not the same as being in a real gunfight, but might be a good training tool for responding to an active shooter situation.

I've done a bunch of scenarios, even sim rounds get your blood up a bit. When you have good actors and pyrotechnics and effects and shit, it goes a long way.

You still know in your head that it is all fake though. Better than no training though.

Agree with Gelston on that... I helped support some things over the years, and most scared I ever got, was the first time doing a live shoot house... my fucking ass was puckered tight on that one. Thankfully only ever had to do 2 of them over the years. But it was the best training I ever did recieve... but those dudes doing it day in and day out are on another level of focus.

I used to play Counter-Strike in VR (Pavlov) a lot.

As you've probably already figured out, I am a seasoned combat veteran now.

That’s essentially the same way they are training new recruits into the police academy these days. We have finally reached the application of VR technology predicted in the 1992 sci-fi film The Lawnmower Man.

Ehh…I think it’s a bad idea. The ED-209 has faulty logic circuits and it’s too easy for the local school bully to manually override. We can look at cyborg RoboCops, but the OCP is known to cut corners and our schools might end up with a bunch of Nuke addicts.
