But hey, give him credit, at least the bolt is forward.
Hm, I always thought forward assists was standard on the AR. Never could afford an AR, so I went with the mini-14.

It is because right before this he had someone clear it, likely because he had no idea how. The way he was talking about the ammo and all that leads me to believe he learned everything from movies.

He is sitting there acting like FMJ isn't the standard ammo that is available for ARs. And then he is all "It goes through vests!" Well yeah, all rifles do. Soft armor is only made to stop pistols.
I'm pretty sure he knew what full metal jacket is, it just sounds scary.

Forward assists were added with the shittier M16s of the vietnam era. You don't really need them as much anymore. I can count on one hand how many times I've ever used it through the thousands upon thousands of rounds I've fired, and that was generally only when I had an A2. Never had to use it on my A4.

I always thought it was crazy that they issued a rifle that needed that shit. I know when my dad went into basic they were still training with the M1, never even held an m16 until they were shipped over.

    Vietnam was fucking stupid.

So, the creator of the rifle didn't think they did. The Army said they did. So he caved and put it on the M16A1.

Although I do take it back, I did use it a lo when I'd pull back the bolt just enough to observe the chamber and see if a round was in. I'd hit the bolt assist to get it back forward.

Probably a good investment now, mini-14's have really appreciated in value.

I got it new back in the late 90's so it doesn't have the cheap ass plastic shit. I've put thousands of rounds through it and it's never jammed once. They are a pretty solid gun for the price.
