One of the scarier things about this whole situation is just how close Trump got to overturning the election.

Fortunately the effort was doomed because of the current makeup of Congress. But even after he incited a riot and sent them to attack Congress, 145 Congressional Republicans voted to invalidate the Pennsylvania electoral vote. Before it happened, there were at least 14 Senators who were willing to vote to invalidate several state elections. (basically every swing state Trump lost)

Imagine if the GOP had a strong majority in the House and Senate. Imagine the GOP version of the 2008 election.

With the approval of those objections in the House assured, how many more GOP Senators would have jumped on board? It's easy to not sign on when you know it's not going to go through. But how many of them would have been willing to risk being accused of being the Senator who kept Trump from having a second term by their Republican base? Most of them either refused to criticize his rhetoric about the election or actively participated in pushing the lies themselves.

We've witnessed 4 years of Senate Republicans being too afraid to stand up to Trump no matter how bad things got out of fear of being primary'd on the right. If the insurrection attempt hadn't happened, there's no reason to expect they would have magically grown spines or a conscience.

How differently that could all have played out.

This is all correct. All the people talking about white privilege on display at the capital...an unarmed white woman was shot and killed. Where was her privilege? It's almost like cops/agents aren't really racists and people just shouldn't break the law if they don't want to face possibly severe consequences. I have no sympathy for the woman. If you're going to come, come correct or don't come. She knew the risks. But that suit that shot her...he's a murderer, imo, from the video I saw, and I look forward to seeing him tried for murder. If there is context missing from the video I saw and he's exonerated, then so be it, but I'm satisfied to trust the system to see justice served.

This has been pointed out to you again and again and again.

This past election was a terrible night for Democrats. As a reminder, Democrats were projected to beat Trump by at least 8 points, pick up 10-15 House seats, add control of two more State Legislatures, and to gain up to 6 Senate seats.

What actually happened is Trump outperformed expectations by at least 4 points, the Dems lost House Seats, lost control of two State Legislatures, and only picked up 3 Senate seats on election night. And the only reason why they picked up the Georgia seats is because Trump has been acting like a maniac trying to undermine our democracy.

So no, things absolutely did not work out like the left wanted.

But, to your point, our democracy held up in large part because of the Democratic party and its voters (You're welcome). And if you had even a sliver of patriotism or reverence for democracy left in you, you wouldn't be acting like a petulant child over the fact that they didn't, at the end of the day, manage to overturn a free and fair election.

1) Trump gathered tens of thousands of his most fervent supporters for a "Save America" march to the Capitol on the exact date and time Congress was scheduled to certify the election that Trump lost
2) He knew there were armed white nationalist militia groups there
3) He pointed them to the Capitol and they were told to "stay strong", "never give up", "They're" busy stealing your freedom over there", "today is trial by combat"
4) When he found out what they were attacking the Capitol Building of the United States of America, he called them patriots and told them he loved them.
5) He refused to authorize the National Guard to intervene for an hour and a half
6) Multiple outlets are reporting that his aides found him borderline gleeful while he watched it

Capitol Police officer died. Struck in the head with a fire extinguisher by a guy that probably has blue lives matter stickers all over his car.

I read an article stating he's still alive and suffered a stroke and they aren't even sure yet if the fire extinguisher had anything to do with his medical emergency or was even thrown by a protester.

I'll wait at least 24 hours before believing the "news"
