The Washington Wetbacks has a nice ring to it. Instead of a center preparing to snap a football like the old Patriots logo, they could have a guy bending down to pick a tomato. What?

Redskins won't change their name till Congress forces them to, or ticket and merchandise sales drop so low they lose money. I doubt Congress will ever force them to change.. (well, maybe if 300 morons get elected.. or people like you and Back) As far as people.. I just don't think people really care. Hell, most native Americans don't care.

Most of these name change things are started by left wing loons that think they are doing a good thing because of some form of guilt they feel.
No duh. That's the point. As these names keep dropping like so many pox ridden injuns, the Washington Professional Football Organization will lose money and they will change. The wall has been written on. Unfortunately, we'll still have to go through this Bullshit for years. It's going to happen (name change), I know that, You (deep down inside) know that.

Yeah, maybe in 100 years when more fucked up morons exist. By then tho, I seriously hope that those same fucked up assholes demand the change of Oklahoma. Since it is a racial slur then. I wonder if these same idiots will demand name changes of towns...

Of course in 100 years we likely won't be playing football anymore anyway, because the same people that think the name is insensitive likely are the same people that think the sport is brutal and unneeded. So they will just outlaw it for our protection.

They did some already. Squaw Teat, N.D. doesn't exist anymore. It's now...I don't know, Pink Nipple or Ginger Bush or something.

    Give 'em hell Harry!

“Dan Snyder, he’s got a great new deal,” Reid said in a phone conversation. “He’s going to throw a few blankets to the Indians and get a tax deduction for it. I can’t imagine why the man doesn’t realize that the name is going to change. It’s only a question of when it’s going to change. That’s the only question.”

Reid compared the situation to that at the University of North Dakota. Las Vegas multimillionaire Ralph Engelstad, from Reid’s home state, built an impressive arena for the university’s hockey team, leveraging his influence to encourage the school to keep its Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. Under pressure from the NCAA, the school still wound up dropping the nickname.

“And Snyder has to realize, he is on the losing side of history,” Reid said. “And the sooner he does it, the better off we are. The Wizards, you know, they were the Washington Bullets. With all the killing that took place, the murders in Washington, Abe Pollin – a very nice man – decided I don’t need any of this. So they changed it to the Washington Wizards. We’re all used to the Washington Wizards. And I don’t know what [the Redskins will] change the name to, but we’ll get used to it really quick.”

    I find the Wizards insensitive.

I also don't like the yankees, the phillies, the steelers, the cowboys, the indians, the pirates, ... well.. EVERY non animal team in the entire world. I demand they all be changed.

There Cwolff.. I agree with you. ALL names should be changed to animals.. but then that could be bad too. Huskies.. hmm.. Husky is a term used to describe overweight people.. they are "husky" so a female basketball team called the "huskies" could be insensitive. Can't have that now can we. Hell, Husky is a dog as well, so you are also calling them dogs.. or bitches!! Talk about insensitive.

Thanks for posting that. It exemplifies the underlying issue. When one's worldview is binary that person will always have a struggle between what he/she wishes and reality because reality isn't binary. It's not black and white. The world is nuanced there are shades of grey. The thing that keeps tripping you up is that you classify people or issues into one of two camps. The camps are "US" and "THEM". It's basic ingroup|outgroup stuff. If you can let go of that, and I know it can be scary, a whole new world will open up to you. You'll be able use your judgement and your intellect instead of constantly just reacting. I think you'll be happier too.

LOL, YOU classify everything into it.

I was just pointing out the stupidity of getting worked up over a name. You do realize some indians used to refer to themselves as the "red people" right? Something is derogatory if you find it so and if it is used in such a manner. Asian people tend to have slanty eyes. If you were describing such a person to a police sketch artist.. would you refrain from giving a correct description of the eyes to not want to offend someone? Saying someone has slanty eyes is not derogatory, calling someone a slanty eyed such and such, is. I would think you would know the difference.

The N word originally just referred to the fact that their skin was black. Period. Frankly, calling someone a black man should have just as much negative connotation.

"The variants neger and negar, derive from the Spanish and Portuguese word negro (black), and from the now-pejorative French nègre (negro). Etymologically, negro, noir, nègre, and nigger ultimately derive from nigrum, the stem of the Latin niger (black) (pronounced [ˈniɡer] which, in every other grammatical case, grammatical gender, and grammatical number besides nominative masculine singular, is nigr-, the r is trilled)."
I find this quote in the Wiki for Redskins funny...

"It is argued by sociologist Irving Lewis Allen that slang identifiers for ethnic groups based upon physical characteristics are by nature derogatory, emphasizing the difference between the speaker and the target.[8]"
Does that mean I can be offended when I am referred to as a "white person"?
