Thread: Climate Change Report

    Default Climate Change Report

Anyone read this report? It's less about new information and more about putting in terms that people can understand. Done by the Royal Society and U.S. National Academy of Sciences. It will be interesting to see if this changes the debate from if it's happening to how we fix it.

CLIMATE CHANGE IS ONE OF THE DEFINING ISSUES OF OUR TIME. It is now more
certain than ever, based on many lines of evidence, that humans are changing Earth’s
climate. The atmosphere and oceans have warmed, accompanied by sea-level rise, a
strong decline in Arctic sea ice, and other climate-related changes.

Another doom and gloom report with no solutions?

Political affiliation is a predictor of one's belief in climate change. This may shift the thinking so that's it's no longer a partisan issue.

Damn it. I still don't know how to post a picture bigger than a thumbnail.

But how? What sets this report apart from all other reports that say man is causing global warming and yet still offer no solutions?

    Well, there's this:

the National Academy of Sciences and Royal Society were compelled to make a statement, according to Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Pennsylvania State University in University Park. "Sadly, in today's political environment, where climate change denial is pervasive at our highest levels of government, it seems that the message is not being heard," he told NBC News via email.
    and talk about optoins:

To move the debate forward on how to respond to climate change, the document describes available options, ranging from doing nothing and accepting the "losses, damage and suffering that arise," to a change in energy production and usage to limit greenhouse gas emissions or "geoengineering" of the climate to counteract some of the changes.

For years I thought global warming...oops sorry we say "climate change" now don't we...was not backed up by scientific evidence. The mountain of evidence available has convinced me otherwise. What I would like to see now is a reasonable approach to solving the problem. Extremists on both sides of the issue are not welcome.

And good luck, given the economic impact any significant policy change will have on many countries in the world.

Just wait for Tambora (Ever hear of the year without a summer?) or Krakatoa to erupt again. Then all that we caused will look rather minuscule.
