Thread: More Obamacare fuckups

We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404

It’s been one full week since the flagship technology portion of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) went live. And since that time, the befuddled beast that is Healthcare.gov has shutdown, crapped out, stalled, and mis-loaded so consistently that its track record for failure is challenged only by Congress.

The site itself, which apparently underwent major code renovations over the weekend, still rejects user logins, fails to load drop-down menus and other crucial components for users that successfully gain entrance, and otherwise prevents uninsured Americans in the 36 states it serves from purchasing healthcare at competitive rates – Healthcare.gov’s primary purpose. The site is so busted that, as of a couple days ago, the number of people that successfully purchased healthcare through it was in the “single digits,” according to the Washington Post.

We, the taxpayers, seem to have forked up more than $634 million of the federal purse to build the digital equivalent of a rock.

The reason for this nationwide headache apparently stems from poorly written code, which buckled under the heavy influx of traffic that its engineers and administrators should have seen coming. But the fact that Healthcare.gov can’t do the one job it was built to do isn’t the most infuriating part of this debacle – it’s that we, the taxpayers, seem to have forked up more than $634 million of the federal purse to build the digital equivalent of a rock.

Poll: Health exchange rollout gets poor reviews

WASHINGTON (AP) — The government's new health insurance marketplaces are drawing lots of rotten tomatoes in early reviews, but people are at least checking them out.

Seven percent of Americans report that somebody in their household has tried to sign up for insurance through the health care exchanges, according to an AP-GfK poll.

While that's a small percentage, it could represent more than 20 million people.

Three-fourths of those who tried to sign up reported problems, though, and that's reflected in the underwhelming reviews.

Overall, just 7 percent of Americans say the rollout of the health exchanges has gone well. Far more deem it a flop.

My cousin who has been buying his own family insurance for years pays 500 a month. He just got a letter from blue/cross blue shield that his rate next year would be 1100 a month. The increase is to encompass all the crap obama care tells insurance companies they need to provide to people. Not trying to be political but this thing is a mess.

It's funny how this always gives problems to Republicans. Its like the system understands your disingenuous nonsense.

This is a train wreck. It will take time to be ironed out but the government NEEDED more time to test software, server load etc etc. This is the Democrats' Messiah's Golden Law of the land. How dare the Republicans come back after defunding failed and say lets at least delay the ACA. To be honest A LOT more work was needed to prepare for this thing.
That's because states were supposed to create their own Health Connectors, and it was supposed to be a state run interface after healthcare.gov determines the state you're in (Look at MA for example). However, Republican dominated states like Texas outright refused to comply with the new law, so government needed to step in and do their work for them after they hadn't created a site in due time. Therefore, it was a rushed job due to non-compliance by states.

But, also my earlier post... Do you really want them to utilize a server farm that can handle the 50 million enrolling right now, when the ongoing demand and utilization of the site won't be more than a couple thousand a week going forward?

Obamacare is designed to make health care affordable for everyone, but several million families could get caught in a loophole in the law that leaves them out in the cold.
But but... Obamacare is supposed to ensure coverage for *all* Americans!!

Do you ever tire of using the line "But Republicans!"?

Come on Whirlin, not all 50 million people are trying to buy health insurance at the exact same time, especially not those in states that have their own website.

Also while you're mostly right about Republican controlled states not having their own healthcare website there are some exceptions.
